Yellow GVW sticker on Drivers Bed Side???

My father recalls that on his 67 stepside and my grandfathers 67 fleetside, they both had a yellow decal with black or red writing indicating the GVW of the truck. These were on the bed on the drivers side. Anyone ever seen one? Were they on all years, or when did they stop them?

His both had these on them in the very early 80's. He said they looked like stickers that should have been peeled off on delivery, but since it was there he left it there.

Re: Yellow GVW sticker on Drivers Bed Side???

Different states have different requirements for commercial vehicles....and they regarded all trucks as commercial vehicles. Here in Arkansas, a half-ton truck got what was called an "A" tag, until new plates came into use in '68. At that time, half and three-quarter ton trucks got the new plates, just like the passenger vehicles got. One-ton trucks got a B-tag, although some 3/4-ton trucks used for commercial purposes may have had a B-tag. But, none of them that I recall over the past 50 years had any kind of labeling on the vehicle as to the GVW, as a state requirement.

Again, other states have their own set of rules as to the labeling. Looks like NY State had a requirement.

Re: Yellow GVW sticker on Drivers Bed Side???

Here in Utah, we used to required to have a GVW sticker. They had to be in the format of U6000 or U9000 and on up (U6000 being a 1/2 ton). There was a couple standard stickers that were sold everywhere, and the customized guys had them pin striped on. I can't exactly remember when they quit doing this, 20 years ago or so, I'd say. I think lots of these kind of things went away when stuff got computerized. Either that, or they finally figured out that you could just count lug nuts

In Washington State I remember you could put the GVW and weight number on your own truck..Seen a plenty of crooked numbers on trucks ,Smeared ones ,,unreadable ones and lots were some ugly color ,,,I was glad Oregon didnt have ..Washington doesnt have it anymore either.
