GM Factory Info

My Chev 4x4 had a H letter in the VIN number. I don't see the letter listed in the VIN decoder but I remember having seen it listed somewhere. It was built in a Chev factory in Oakland. Does anyone know have any info or know any history on this. I'm just curious! Most know about the Fremont or the other factories but don't remember the Oakland factory. I'm just trying to trace the history of my truck.

Which truck (what model year?)?

How do you know it was built in a Chevy factory in Oakland?

Re: GM Factory Info

The only VIN number I have is the partial one on the frame rail. It has the letter H & then a 6 digit sequential number. The letter stands for the plant where it was assembled. I don't remember where I saw it but the H letter stood for an assembly plant in Oakland. I'm trying to get more info. My truck is a salvaged titled truck. It is listed on the reg as a 69 but the frame is from an earlier year.

Re: GM Factory Info

The only "H" plant code I see here in the 69/70 timeframe is Flint Buick City.

I am not aware of an assembly plant in "Oakland", but will continue to look and give it some thought.

Re: GM Factory Info

Instead of "H", could it be "N" = Norwood?
