Where to get replacement parts?
I have used Rock auto for years and had several problems.....The last problem was major. I paid for parts, received some of them but not all of them. Was charged, Credit card, ended up disputing the charge because of not receiving all the parts I payed for. And they won saying that I couldn't offer proof that I didn't receive the parts. How could I prove that? So I am out a good bit of money.
They have great prices on quality replacement parts, but has enough of all the constant small problems. I need some small stuff for my new, to me, blazer and used my girl friends credit card, they took the order,, then just emailed her some bs and the parts could only be shipped with pay pal etc. I like using premium parts and no luck with an online place with comparable prices. Any idea's? I had order acdelco, rayestos, timkin and wagner brake parts .....no looking for sheet metal etc, just quality replacement wear parts? Thanks, Steve |

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
check out the vendors forum and advertisers on this site. Also good catalogs and websites at LMC truck, Classic Parts (I think that's the name), and one other catalog I can't remember right now, but check out the vendors forum.

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I have and I do use them for quite a few things. But stuff like bake pads, hoses, spark plugs and stuff like that. They don't sell in enough volume to give a great price on things like that. Rock auto price on a Raybestos hose was 8.35.....after going thru some web sites , the same part was from 14.50(no name) to 23.45 for the same exact part.
Thanks, Steve |

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
Sorry to hear that you had a problem with Rock Auto. I have been lucky so far ordering from them.
I try to buy as much as possible at local auto parts places, then after that on to site vendors.

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
Napa or autozone, I move alot and there is nothing that can touch autozones warranty especially between different states.
Had good luck with rock auto so far (knock on wood).... I am getting bad service with some of the board vendors and its starting to become a trend, wont name names, but I am still awaiting a email response from one vendor that was sent weeks ago...Business must be so good that they havent had time to read their emails.....(Then take your email off the webpage).......geez..... Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I'll add my vote for NAPA; easier to find US parts and the Ol' guy knowledge can't be beat...

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
Oreilly, Autozone, Napa in that order.
Oreilly-decent quality parts, if they dont stock it they can usually order pretty much anything, usually have knowledgeable employees, price match Autozone-cheapest prices, best warranty out there (coast to coast), incompetent employees, price match, theres 4 within 5 miles of my home Napa-decent quality parts, premium prices, far and few between |

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I would have to agree with 69heavychevy, other than i'd put Autozone above Kragen (err O-reilly i mean) of 2 reasons. 1 Kragen didn't and couldn't find or order a carb kit for my Rochester Q-jet, and 2... i've seen they're employes completely ignore the phone ringing multiple times with no other customers in the store.
yup, i'm an autozone guy. Most of all because of their warranty policy

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
You can't judge a whole franchise by one location with one set of employees. You could drive to the next location or ask a different counter person and get different results.
I don't order wear parts online. I just go to Napa. If your store has lame help,go online, look up the part, and hand them the part number. My store has great help and IMO napa beats the tar out of all the others. I get all the brand name first quality parts from them. Not the Duracrap those others offer

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
i by far prefer to buy local from people i know rather than an anonomous call taker in an unknown location
i prefer NAPA and CARQUEST both locations i use have excellent counter guys that understand and are glad to take the time and search they even know how to use books to find obscure parts that i request i'm willing to pay that little bit extra for thier service . the CHEAP CHEAP thing seems to not work that well in the long run

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I wish it was only a matter of a few bucks.......between NC tax and the going price, pretty much everything I have searched online for and then checked out local was atleast double for the standard part then add another 30 or 40% for a premium but still not a top line name.
I have been doing this for almost 40 years, and with the internet I know where the info is i need as far as certain parts. I was an ASE master tech for 15 years and know how to cross reference plus with GM parts there aren't really any surprises with the older stuff. If I need help or info I have no problem using local and paying the premium. I just want to order parts at around the cost I used to be able to when I was a tech in DC. I used Earl's discount auto parts. got great service, price and top name products. I use them when I do major stuff and visit my family. They are not in a good section of DC at all , so I don't feel comfortable to ask any of my family members, plus a good friend works there but again I don't feel good about asking him to pack and ship a small order. I was looking at 74.95 with the rock auto order for all premium parts to my door, closest I could get with names I had never heard of, both local and internet was 109.52. That difference is more than my net for 3 hours at work. A Wagner brake hose, Rayabesto brake pads, ac delco caliper hardware and pins, and timken wheel seals. Times are tough for me,35 bucks is 35 bucks! That's a tank of gas for my daily driver. Some parts I will go cheap if I have to, but not brakes, steering, wheels, tires and exhaust.........that comes from running towing services at night and doing police calls. those cheap parts...........not pretty when they fail. Thanks, Steve |

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I've lived near enough to a NAPA for the past few years to start buying parts from them. Over time I've noticed that I usually hit up NAPA first then Oreilly then Autozone. NAPA parts seem to generally be of better quality. All parts houses have their good aspects and bad.
Good deals can be had online if you take the time to search. I've bought a few parts from Rockauto and many others usually with no issues.

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
I'm cheap to the bone and I never seem to learn but AutoZone's "Lifetime warranty" just seems to mean you will spend YOUR LIFETIME returning their parts until you give up or die. I think they did the math and this is their plan.
Great for most general stuff but for starters, alternators,AC compressors, master cylinders etc. unless you really like working on your truck I'd go with the local shop. I like CarQuest too. Some good prices and the last time I was in there for something it needed some adjustment to fit and the guy just took it to the shop in back and it got fixed in 10 minutes. Try that at most places.

Re: Where to get replacement parts?
We have a "next day" NAPA in our small town. I drive past it and another 45 minutes to get to the CarQuest down in the big city.
