1965 SWB Fleetside
I dont know what happened, somehow i deleted the whole post, dang! Well heres the motor im gonna build.

So i'll start again.........
I started this project when i was 15, and i am now 23. I bought tons of brand new parts that weren't necessity and began a frame off restoration beginning with bare metal frame rails and a sandblasted cab. As is sits now, its a rolling chassis with a mild built 350 and 3" drop coils up front 4" in rear. 2.5" spindle drop with 4 wheel 5 lug disc conversion. Suspension is powder coated and crossmembers are painted same as truck GM "Cat's Eye Blue". Cab and body panels all painted and stored until assembly. Every new part including mirrors, carpet, handles, all stainless hardware for entire truck, door and window mechanisms, bed wood and stainless strips, original rebuilt and chromed bezel instrument cluster with original TACH, all matched locks rebuilt including glove box, ignition, and both doors........ect. ect. ect..........
HOWEVER when i graduated high school i moved to alaska for a couple months and never touched the truck again......... UNTIL NOW.
I've been involved in mud trucks for a few years now and just plain got distracted by the sport. Since i traded my mud truck off for a smaller easier to take care of toy, i decided to get back to the 65'. The mud truck scene did bring about a wonderful thing though, my dad's 66 Panel (originally an ambulance) which sits on 2.5ton military rockwells and 53" Rice & Canes, powered by a CUMMINS with an Allison transmission. Also is on a C60 frame with a C60 front clip.
NEW PLANS........
-After obtaining some more parts over the years i have decided to completely bag the truck using CPP's cnotch and tubular trailing arms (also hope to computerize entire suspension)
- The new power plant will be a 6bt CUMMINS, hopefully pushing around 350 hp & 800 ft/lbs
-this motor will provide extreme power, great fuel mileage and be dependable as hell while turning heads all over.

Sounds like a pretty awesome project. I'm not sure I've ever seen one of these trucks bagged with a diesel, so I'm looking forward to seeing this truck progress!

Sound's like you've had quite an oddesy with nothing specific in mind. What are you looking for? It's always nice to have a plan and stick with it, or are you looking for feelers on what direction you should go? My son wasn't satisfied until he had had a taste of everything and I think even today he's not quite sure sometimes. But all in all a budget will control most directions what ever they may be. Ive been involved with enough truck projects now to know that a build never sticks to plan. Usually it evolves into much more than what was originally planned. I started out building with a budget based on deals, every upgrade i found was a good deal i couldn't pass up. The air suspension came about a year ago when i found a 71' for sale on craigslist, it had a 350 and th350 and my dad was looking for one. When we went to look at it, the guy had all the air suspension parts brand new in the packages that he never got around to installing, the stuff was thrown in with the deal and be time my dad bought the truck and took what he needed, i had 50 bucks in 4 bags, line, CPP tubulars, and the c-notch and bag brackets.......... another kink in the plan ;-) but definitely a good one. The CUMMINS is random i know, but you cant kill the motor, it will put out lots of torque, sound awesome, and best of all, just be unlike anything else on the road i my area.

Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS. The only difference in your story and the story of many others, is you chose to share yours in a public forum. Many ambitious builds fall to the wayside, due to limitations on funds, time, knowledge and motivation or a combination of all the above. I am glad to hear you have traveled many roads, before arriving back at the '65. I am anxious to see your progress.

BTW - I bet a lot of fellow members would like to see a few photos of your dad's rig, including me.

Good to see another build in progress that 6BT will turn some heads for sure. A lot better home for that engine than in another 8 inch lift 37 inch tired pavement princess built in a dealer truck

dont know yet, probably hard, but i bet it'll fit like a glove, i did rough measurements on my 93 dodge cummins, and on another 65 chevy with no motor. It was 34 inches between the firewall and the front of the motor in the dodge, and 39 inches between the firewall and radiator in the 65, as for the height and cross member, all the measurements between the two trucks are almost identical. The only thing im worried about at this point is the bellhousing and the fire wall. THe cummins is extremely long, and extremely tall but we're gonna make it happen.

Been a long time so time to start the updates. Plan to have it on the road by march of 2012, and as easy as that seems, i only get to work on it 1 day a week.

Custom radiator, like a glove.

Holy Gears!

Brand new head job.

Transmission just got built.

Believe it or not, that aluminum piece on the head is an aftermarket billet intake that they call a "tunnel ram"
