mount a big-block in the 68 chassis? The factory mounts for those years are hard to find and pretty pricey. I am not concerned with being all factory looking. I thought that I read later mounts could work but I am not sure if that is correct. I think my truck was a factory big- block, It has the high hump. Did all 3/4 tons have that? Being the this is a GMC I have found no trace of a SPID. My truck has been locally owened it's whole life and when I was younger I am thinking it was a 396 truck but it has a center boltv/c 350 in it now. I am planning a frame change to a swb 5lug suspension and I thiught that would be the perfect time to put in that 454 I have sitting and waiting to be called into duty. If someone could post some pics of the big vs small mounts I might could tell what I have if not maybe someone could answer about the later mounts working. Thaks for the help. Jim

I don't know if all 3/4 tons had the high hump. I do know that all big blocks had them, and all four-speeds had them. I think some or all TH400's had them. So you could have a 6 cylinder with a 4 speed and it would have a high hump.

My 68 has the orginal th400 in it. It should be awesome it will be a 5 lug bigblock with tilt tac/vac, speed warning, buddy buckets and factory air power steering and brakes. I cannot decide on the bed floor if it will be steel or wood. I am getting pumped thinking about it. I have'nt got to work on it for a couple of months. This mount question will need to be put to bed before I can put in my drive train

We put a '73 454 in my '71 using the '73 big block mounts.

Thanks for the help I thought I read that I could use the later mount and would work. Now, is there any difference in the big and small block mounts after 73? Were'nt they all the same?

Yes, the 73-87 motor mounts work for big and small blocks and are a cheap alternative. They look like the 72 specific mounts but have a single hump at the top instead of two like the 72 mounts do.

My 68 C20 3/4 ton has 327 with TH400 from factory. 2 WD and has small hump.

i seen some dudes use angle iron to mount there motors, weld to the chassis and bolt on the front of the engine

i have an 84 sububan 454 th400 in my 67 and used the 84 mounts worked perfect i did have to drill a few holes to mount them but it was easy
