64 Needs Specialized Sheet Metal Work

Do you know anyone that is really good with sheet metal work? My PO leavves me needng a faceplate.

What do you need a cover?

Step 1: cut piece to fit
Step 2: weld piece in
Step 3: cut out needed openings
Step 4: beer time

or

Step 1: Buy radio repair panel
Step 2: Cut out section of dash
Step 3: Weld in
Step 4: Beer time

either way gonna need some welding, but you could make a repair/delete piece out of a square of 18GA steel, drill the holes for the posts, and cut the opening out for the radio

If you just want to get the stock radio installed, I'd consider making a simple faceplate and then color-matching it to the dash.

If you want it to look 100% factory, see K1rodeoboater's post above. You'll have to spray the entire dash when you're finished, though.

I've got the same issue. I'm going to build a faceplate because I'm leaving the dash patina as-is for now. For at least the next 20 years.....

Another way to fix that is , first buy the repair panel for that area, or an original piece of dash if you can find one. Next cut the radio area out of your patch panel. Trim it down to the edge around the recessed area for the radio. Next get some panel bonding adhesive from your auto parts, or auto body supplier. Clean the mating surfaces down to bare steel, preferrably a little rough. Then glue the repair piece into your existing dash, and secure until the adhesive has time to cure. If you wanted to you could paint just the repaired area the same or a slightly different color.

So long as you're not going to be using any power tools...within moderation should be ok.

Here is how I usually do it:
Step 4, step 1, step 4, step 2, step 4, step 3, step 4.
It's really not a problem until I do something that needs takes more than 10 steps.
