wood prepped, sanded on edges and cross splined across the back to prevent splitting.

sorry to post so many pics guys, but I am very excited about this. I also think that the wood bed is gonna look great with the Dark Olive green.

I also want to plug Mothertruckers, Ed is a great resource, a very nice guy and I consider him a friend. He knows his stuff with these wood bed kits too.

wood strips

"cross splined across the back to prevent splitting"

Can you maybe explain why you would do this, this is the first time I've heard about this technique, it sounds like a good idea. Does it show is the finished stage? thanks

Bowtie,
Ed can explain better but basically he routed out the backsides of the bed boards with a 3/8inch router bit then cut matching pieces of oak and glued it in so that the grain is perpendicular to the board grain. There is one about 1/2 inch from each end of each board and more scattered through the length of the board. The idea is to keep the wood from splitting on the ends. That is a real problem here in Fl. and some recent bed jobs have only lasted a couple of years because of it. This is absolutely invisible from the top of the boards.

As for the pictures, it has been raining here most of the year and especially this week. It has been hard for me to be with the truck when the sun is out. I will get better pics next week.
