Crate engine shipping??
Hey, I've been thinking bout going the crate engine route.... Have any of you guys shipped a crate engine like this to canada: http://www.jegs.com/p/GM-Performance...52506/10002/-1
Was it super expensive for freight? If anyone knows of a good reasonably priced engine they could recommended feel free to chime in! Thanks! |

Re: Crate engine shipping??
I bought mine from my local GM dealer.
You have to pay sales tax,... but no shipping charges. Plus,... if it gets damaged during shipping,... it's their problem,... not yours.

Re: Crate engine shipping??
The same engine is 1750.00 at our local gm store in Canada...also note that if a Canadian purchases an engine out of the us there is no warrantee. If you buy it in Canada there is a 2 year warrantee.
The other engine to consider is the GM performance parts 350/290 which is the same engine with an L82 camshaft. This is also available as a deluxe kit #19244450 with carb and intake We have used these and they work well |

Re: Crate engine shipping??
Just a thought - how would you make a claim with GM for the bad engine? If the engine is blown, wouldn't they claim low oil, low coolant, over revved, improper installation, etc.? How could you prove otherwise? Or is it a no questions asked, no hassle new engine replacement? I doubt it. People who buy whole new GM vehicles with engine trouble have trouble getting a replacement engine.
I would still go with a new GM engine over rebuilt any day, I just don't put much stock in a warranty. So, drop the engine in a good rust free square on the US side and drive it across the border - take out the engine and sell the rust free parts, or sell your current truck. |

Re: Crate engine shipping??
That would probably be the best thing to do tusconjwt! It would be funny to bring all the tools with you across the border, swap the old engine for a new one and drive home lol

Re: Crate engine shipping??
ever cross the border?
they can check that engine stuff on a whim wouldn't wana get nailed doin that, you could never go back...... even for warranty lol but i think he was suggesting a whole truck.....make the whole truck worth it but hey what if it blew up while on a trip....that would be a reason to "have to"
