1972 Cab Swap Questions

I'm thinking of swapping my 1969 chevy cab to a 1972 chevy cab. Are the 1969 doors the same as 1972 ? Will the doors fit ? Are there any changes between the 1969 and 1972 cab wise ? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1972 Cab Swap Questions

Everything will bolt right up. Cab and doors are the same.

Check the trans hump is the right one for your application ...four speed tall ...auto short. These just bolt on BTW.

Good luck, don't forget to replace the cab mounts while your doin the swap ..the old one's tend to sag and can cause cab to bed alignment issues

Re: 1972 Cab Swap Questions

Same/same. The only difference is only '72 doors have the dimple/screw under the window divider and the interior handle and crank shafts are longer.

Re: 1972 Cab Swap Questions

Just thought of a couple other small differences while I was sobering up.

--The 67-70 have rod actuated throttle to the go pedal mounted on studs on the floor ....71-72 have cable throttle which swings from a pivot from above.

--71-72 has vent in cab door jamb ...no big deal !!!!!

--72 rear view mirror mounts ...to windshield... 67-71 mounts above windshield to cab sheetmetal...again easy stuff !!!!

--67-70 have lever pull parking brake ...71-72 have a floor pedal

--I believe that 72 only has a outside mirror mounting pad on door

--72 has 2 hoses running to gas tank for vapor return smog crap

None of these differences are a deal breaker by any means and most don't even effect your swap anyway. I've swapped many parts between these years of trucks ...it's all pretty straight forward.

There may be a few other very minor differences which in no way should inhibit what is a relatively simple swap. Overall the cabs are the same and if you have to do any tweaks it's all minor ****

Re: 1972 Cab Swap Questions

Biggest thing you will find is going from throttle rod to cable. No big deal. Parking brakes will be the same from 69-72. And make sure which center hump you need. The low hump tunnels do not bolt in.

We just bought a '71 swb fleet and some one had cut out the low hump and fitted the high hump so they could use the truck for drag racing, the guy said.

Wow!! I drank more than I thought....I HAVE a '69 cab on my '68 and..... YUP I use my foot to use the parking brake.

--So, it goes more like this 67-68 (pull handle brake) 69-72 (foot pedal brake)

--Also the trans tunnels on all 4x4's and 2wd manual trans cabs have "high tunnel" which are bolted in ...cabs w/automatics are "low tunnel" and are spot welded... more work to switch to low to high tunnel if this applies to your application. One more thing....the molded carpet kits are different....don't get the wrong one.

Actually, if 4x4 or 4 speed and most big block TH400 trucks it would have a bolt in hump. If 3 on the tree or TH350 trans it would be low hump. There is always an exception it seems, but this is a general rule of thumb.

Here's the most comprehensive list I could find about "humps on "humpday", it's amazing how much different information is out there...."too much stuff" is probably right about the exceptions out there...could be oddball configurations that slipped through the system during assembly..who knows?

From Classic Heartbeat Parts:

This is a list of 67-72 Pickups, Blazers, Suburbans, and Panels that were stock with a "Low Hump":

All 2 wheel drives with a 6 cylinder engine and a 3 speed manual or automatic transmissions.

All 2 wheel drives with a small block V-8 and a 3 speed manual or automatic transmissions.

This is a list of 67-72 Pickups, Blazers, Suburbans, and Panels that were stock with a "High Hump"

All 2 wheel drives with a Big Block V-8. (Doesn't matter which transmission)

All 2 wheel drives with 4 speed manual transmissions.

All 4 wheel drives. (Doesn't matter what engine size or which transmission)
