Replacing fender emblems?

Is it necessary to remove the fender to replace the 10/20 etc emblems on the cab end of the fenders? The back side seems in a tough to access spot. Thanks

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

i know on my 67 I had to because you cant get at the nuts to remove them but they may have used speed nuts in the later model years but i can't confirm that. someone will know more im sure.

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

to make a long story short i ended up taking the fenders off to replace the emblems and chrome moldings about 4 years ago, then decided to paint and while i had the front end off i rebuilt the engine and im still waiting to put them on.lol. hope this doesn't happens to you (unless you want it to). lol but seriously i think if you take the inner fenders out and loosen the bottom fender bolt you may be able to get them off. just may need a long open end wrench.

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

It's been a while, but as I recall you just need to take most of the inner fender bolts and the lower rear fender mount bolt out. Then you can pull it away enough to get your arm up there. I've never had to completely remove the fender.

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

That sounds about right. Aman needing to change a fender emblem, ends up in a full frame off resto. It is funny [or sad] how that happens

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

I have removed lots of emblems and never had to loosen any bolts. Just need a long arm and a long 3/8ths wrench. I am not saying it is easy, but can be done from the bottom.

Re: Replacing fender emblems?

I take a few bolts out to make it easier. Nothing to it and worth the effort,IMO. Maybe my arms are just short Point is,you don't need to remove the fender, which would mean the hood, too.
