Cam question?

I have a comp cam hydraulic flat tappet cam part number 12-214-4 its a 305/525 lift, Im running it ith dome pistons, double hump heads with 202 valves and a little port work should I keep this cam or go with a hydraulic roller cam? I need some input.

Re: Cam question?

You might want to reconsider your head choice... a set of untouched vortec heads will probably flow better than those camel humps.. if you are keeping the camel humps go ahead and keep the camshaft.

But... if you want to maximize your performance... hydraulic roller with vortec heads

Re: Cam question?

I think that's a very small cam for a 434,, and very large cam for a 305.

LOL,, can you elaborate a bit on what were talking about.

Re: Cam question?

The "305" refers to the advertised duration.

.525" lift Int/Exh
305* advertised duration Int/Exh
253* @ .050" duration Int/Exh
110* lobe separation.
3,000 - 7,000 rpm range.

Re: Cam question?

LOL,,, Yeah I got that from the part #,, what I'm asking is a little more info on the motor, like:
actual compression, (not 'about', if it's not measured / calculated / actual , any suggestion is just a WAG without 'real' compression
VtP clearance now
Intake / carb
Header primary tube d. (mufflers I would assume?)

Drivetrain combination (convertor / trans / gear / tire)

How much street? or track only,, street only,, stoplight grank-prix or what

With todays oils you are way better off with a roller, Performance wise your typically better off with a roller, but some flat tappet mechanical lifter cams are really more agressive than some hydraulic rollers.

So I guess question is,, better for what????
