Junkyard Keyless?

Anybody got any information on keyless entry and/or power door locks from the junkyard. I remember a thread about someone grabbing a set up from a 90s GM van I think, but I can't find it for anything. Really interested in keyless, but power door locks by themselves are nice too. I just don't want to spend the coin on the aftermarket kits just yet. What can I say? I'm cheap

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

wouldnt you need a bcm to get this to work. Sounds like more trouble then its worth. Besides most older systems relied on IR beam which were pretty awful.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

I think by the time you go to the junkyard get all of the hardware you need, find a controller that will work you could have got one new for less money and be more reliable. If you look around on line they are not that much.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

AutoZone sells a kit thats pretty inexpensive. I'm looking at an Avatel unit that has remote start, alarm, door locks and a few other things for about $260. I'd also like to put in the power window module that will lower my power windows to let all this heat out. My wifes Honda has it. Its nice. Good luck with the hunt. Jim.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

I'm keeping an eye on this. Working on adding Factory Keyless to my dad's 96 K1500, so I might be able to find a solution in my research.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

I bought a Viper (Responder 350?) online a year or so ago for $160 shipped from Sonic Electronix. Did not want remote start (it is uprgadeable to that), just an alarm AND remote locks which my 96 did not have. Installed it myself, pretty easy just time consuming. All I had to get additional was 2 relays for the remote door locks.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

Ok ok I guess I must bow to conventional wisdom and purchase a pre-engineered kit. The LMC kit looks good. Did you guys use regular rubber looms through the doors or the contact connection things?

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

Originally, I ran the wires using a rubber grommet but later decided to put power windows in....so now everything runs in rubber boots that I bought from A1-electric...but I was just on their website and I can't find them anymore....

But I did find something similar on Ebay....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/POWER...-/330432236691

I used a uni-bit type drill bit to make the holes for these...worked pretty well with the doors installed.

I don't see why this would not work. Would need one before the body control modules. I would think mid-90s Suburban or van maybe. Hardest thing would be finding a junkyard vehicle with a key fob.

Re: Junkyard Keyless?

I'm parting my Daughters totalled Pontiac Grand Prix that I bought back from the insurance company and had the same idea.

I already got P/W and P/L stuff from a donor K5 to retrofit, Why can't I pull the Keyless entry stuff from the car and retrofit it?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
