to short spindle.
Hei, i`m about to rebuild my 63 chevy now, i have done the 73-87swap with crossmember from a 74, totaly rebuilded. i have bought a lot of parts, but my 2.5" drop spindle from LMCTRUCK wont fitt?? ( trying to find the partnumber now ) the caliper from my 74 fits and so does the rotor, but the spindle spindle is to short, so i cant screw the nut long enough in, miss about an half Centimeter to get the splint in..... .. i measure the old spindleaxle and the new spindle, the old one is about 3/8" shorter....?
I have read some place that they used to types of spindles after 1981? is that right? but i have also read that the calipers from 73-87 dont fit to the new type of spindle... they fit! i`m fed up now, i thought i had done the research good enough............. Best regards from norway! B-) |

Re: to short spindle.
There are two 73-87 spindles.
One for Heavy Duty 1-1/4" wide rotors,... and one for 1" wide Light Duty Rotors. Which spindles do you have? (sounds like you have LD spindles and HD rotors) Original 1974 rotors will be the HD 1-1/4" wide version.

Re: to short spindle.
did you call LMC?
I would call them and complain, there might be a easy fix but not sure. Also get in touch with a vendor here and see what their spindles measure out at.

Yes i know its to kind of spindles.... but i (think) i have read some place that if i used the HD brakes on a LD spindle the caliper would not fit?? but they fits,.. Yes, i have the HD brakes, 1.25" wide. from a 74 Surburban. dident now ther was to kind of spindles when i ordered them for about a year ago, ... on lmc did they only describe that the spindle would fit 73-87? and i thoght the LD spindles was first prodused in 81... it dosent make sense to me, becouse if thats correct it should be described that its two kind of spindles: 73-87HD spindle with a partnumber and 81-87LD spindle and a partnumber..? |

Re: to short spindle.
I discovered the shorter spindle pin right after I swapped my 1960 to a 1975 front suspension. I also had a 1983 ½ ton long bed at the same time. Corvette style rally wheels with police car hubcaps fit perfectly on the 1983, but the 1975 spindles were too long and interfered with the flat style hubcaps. Had I known there was a difference I would have preferred the shorter version.
I’m just sorry to hear about the problem. Being in Norway this is probably going to take some time to correct. Hopefully LMC will step up and offer a resolution. |

Okey, so you also had the HD brakes and spindles on the 83?... so maybe i only need to swap the rotors? (they are in very good shape, but not new)... i have checked som catalogs now, and it isent the same partnumber on the 73-74 and 75-80 spindles, i think.... maybe my spindle is for 75-80? confuesed! Yes, its easier for you guys over there |

Re: to short spindle.
Belltech does have two part numbers.
#3100 for HD rotors. #3200 for LD rotors. After 1981 you could get either the HD or the LD version. Pre-1981 they were all the HD version.

Re: to short spindle.
Rotors, calipers, and bearings MUST all match the version of spindle that you are using.

Re: to short spindle.
Ståle, are you certain that the bearings and races are seated completly into the hub of the rotor? You might verify that the inner seal is the correct size and is slipping over the inner part of the spindle.

Re: to short spindle.
i`m about to order now... i will ordered calipers to a 83 with 5.0L, all of the 81+ with 5.0 have the 1" rotor i`m i right?
Also ordered new rotors ( i will swap to 5x4.75 bolt pattern ) i have read that camaro rotors will fit to the LD spindle? i have put 91 z28 rotors in my shoping cart... they are 11.86" and uses A3 and A6 bearings? I`m tired of get wrong parts from the other side of the world now, if you guys see.... |
