What exhaust manifolds?????
I want to buy some new exhaust manifolds before I put the 350 in my '64. The motor is out of an '84. Will the ramshorn style manifold fit on my motor? If so, where can I get some new ones? If not, what should I go with and where should I get them? Not really wanting to get headers. I want the engine to look as close to an original v8 as possible. Thanks, Jared

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
Those'll work, but they have holes for air injection (smog pump).
Too bad you're not closer, I've got a set from a '65 283 in great shape. |

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
If you want an inexpensive solution, there are versions like this on ebay. I bought a similar pair for my wife’s F250 and they fit perfectly. Can’t go wrong for the price:

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
Seems to me someone was reproducing the Corvette 2.5" rams horn manifolds, I just don't remember who it was.

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
I like these (the set). I've seen them someplace else but I can't remember where right now.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...KQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT These are another ebay option (single). A little cheaper than the Corvette ram horns but still 2.5" exit. You would have to find both sides though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...KQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
I bought a set of 64-65 corvette manifolds 2.5 inch on ebay for like 350. Casting numbers : 3797942 (pass) 3846563 (driv) with correct alternator mount. Heres a link to a guy with the adapter for your exhaust: http://www.castheads.com/corvette_systems.php
Also Paragon Corvette has reproductions of the same ones above for 230 each. Its a lil high but still availible. Just go to their site and do a search for the casting numbers i listed above. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/default.aspx I can get pics of mine if you want. My motor is out and i can take pics of them on my 75 350.Im going to get a set of felpro header gaskets that are high quality and trim them to fit. |

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
One thing I just thought of, if I switch to a different style of exhaust manifold, will that mess with the way my power steering pump mounts? or even my alt?

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
Hmm, Ive got a complete 65 I bought for parts that has a running 283. I originally thought about steeling the valve covers and the ram horn manifolds for my 64 I am woring on. Would that be a bad Idea to make the 283 incomplete, or does it matter? I dunno if an original 283 is worth much or not.

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
Do you have the alternator in the stock location? I mean for the year of the vehicle. Or do you have the alt mounted where it was stock, since its a 350? You need to post some pics. There are lots of possibilities here. If you have the alt on the pass side and P.S. pump low on the driv side, you should be able to use the manifolds from the 283 or vette as i mentioned above. As far as the 283 being worth something, well only if you want to restore the truck to original. They're not really popular for performance builds. 350 is better. Also if you use the valve covers, you will have to come up with a way of installing a PCV valve. Because the 283 and 327 have a unit that is under the back of the intake and has tube that comes up out of the block.

Re: What exhaust manifolds?????
I haven't confirmed it yet but was told O'rielys autoparts has new exhaust manifolds under the Dorman brand. I have also seen the on either Jeg's or Summit under the Dorman brand as well. The corvette ramhorns are a center dump and are 2.5 inches. There are also "regular" ramhorns that are center dump that are a little over two inch inner diameter. I'm not that familiar with the 60-66 exhaust manifolds but the ones I have seen at the salvage yard use the center dump. I have a 1968 C10 and it uses ramhorns that are angled back to give clearance for the motor mounts.
I use this link: http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html to help indentify casting numbers. Scroll down and there is a section on exhaust manifolds. Good luck! Keith |
