Moving the trucks home

Well, probably Wed or Thurs this week, I'm going to put the Blazer on a tow dolly and pull it home to MO with my 71. I'm going to head south to Oregon, then east to ID, UT, CO, KS and then on down to Springfield. Do any of you guys have any road problems along the route that I should be aware of? I've never taken this route, I'm avoiding mountains as much as I can and am just going to have fun cruising East. Let me know if there is anything you guys know of on the way that might snag me up. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Moving the trucks home

If you are taking I70 thru KS then there is lots of road construction in the western part of the state. Dustin

Im assuming your taking I-84 through Idaho? There is some construction but should be pretty smooth sailing to the junction south to Salt Lake...

Every road in Utah is under construction, but one in particular to avoid like the plague. You DO NOT want to head south out of Salt Lake on I-15 (but judging from your route, you shouldn't be heading that way)

If it was me, I'd stay on I-84 until it ends, at Echo, Utah. You will then be at the junction of I-84/I-80. Decide if you want to drive through Wyoming (I-80 east) or through the Colorado Rocky Mountains. That would be my choice, if I wasn't towing anything. But if you want to take that route, take I-80 west. After about 20 miles, you will come to US 40. Take 40 east (your only choice, since this in the western end of US40) until you come to I-70.

I live about 6 miles from I-84/I-80. If you want, PM me and I'll send my number in case you have troubles while your in my neck of the woods.

Correct, 84 through ID then I may jog around to avoid some high elevations while towing.

Right, I wasn't planning on hitting 15 but 40 may be the way to go unless it ends me up at 70. Dustin says its got some terrible construction on it right now. I'll have to look at the atlas again and see which way might be better to avoid the elevations and construction. Thanks for the offer of assistance, I'll pm you my cell phone number, I'll have it on the whole trip. Jeff.

Re: Moving the trucks home

I live in Oakley, KS right along I-70 and 72_C20_67401 was right about the construction but it's not bad now. They've got most of it done (I went to Denver two weekends ago) other than a few mile stretch at the state line. It's not bad enough I'd worry about!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind in case the 84/80 thing looks like a problem. Jeff.

Re: Moving the trucks home

Have a safe trip. If you take the I-70E from UT to CO keep a wary eye on the weather. There are areas where the altitude is over 13k' by Vail, and at the continental divide. Conditions can change very quickly.

You're going to lose a lot of power at high altitude also. It can be a struggle when you are towing. Try to time it so you cross the mountains during the day. It's much safer, and the view is incredible.

Yeah, as unattractive (scenery wise) as Southern Wyoming is, it is fairly flat and more or less straight. I think I-80 through there averages about 6500'.
