Truck Sale Assistance needed

Guys,

I have recently completed my frame off restoration of my 1972 Chevy LWB Fleetside and I am considering selling it. I am fairly new to this forum and did not even think about using this space to sell it. I saw a similar post on the forum over the weekend where many of you suggested to a member to sell their truck on this site. And with that I have a couple questions that if you could lend some insight, would be greatly appreciated.

First, how do I go about determining a price for my truck? This is my frame off restoration and I have never attempted to sell anything this old but this new. Is there a NADA book for classic vehicles or a service that I can use? I just want to make sure that I don’t over value the truck or under value it as well. Do any of you know the going market value for a recently restored 72 Chevy LWB Fleetside pickup?

Second, is there a special ‘For Sale’ area on this forum that I would need to list it or do I just list it in this area? Is there a fee that I need to pay in order to list a vehicle?

Is there a better place on the web to sell fully renovated trucks than this forum?

Thanks for any assistance that you can give.

Re: Truck Sale Assistance needed

The price on your truck should be based on your price. I have seen these trucks from $100.00 to over 100k it all depends on the quality of the build, parts used, how much appeal it has to others. I always price my vehicles at a price where I cover my cost and make a little profit and so far I have never lost money on a vehicle or motorcycle. I see that you are a pying member so you are able to post your truck in the for sale section with no issues. Take good pictures and have all your document to validate your restoration. Lots of people claim to have full resto but no paperwork to show what was installed or done to the truck.

Other websites I use regularly are www.racingjunk.com www.classiccartrader.com www.pro-touring.com www.lateralg.net to name a few and of course there is always www.ebay.com and craigslist which I have had good success with.

Re: Truck Sale Assistance needed

Keller,

Whenever I'm getting ready to sell a vehicle, I do a pretty thorough search of my "competition" and see what they're priced at. It's important to note what the vehicle are actually SELLING for, as anyone can put a huge price tag on POS. A good tool I've used is searching the ebay "completed" listings and see what similar trucks have either sold for or bid up to. Also use some craigslist search engines and see what trucks are going for in your area.

Craigslist is a free service, and I've had VERY good luck selling there. You typically attract only local people to the sale, which means much less headache and less chance to get scammed.

If you have something special or out of the ordinary, I'd list it on ebay or an autotrader type place. I typically list things on specialty boards like this one as well as it gets good traffic to people in the hobby already, and know what the vehicles are worth.

In the end, as previously stated, I've had the best luck off craigslist. Be careful out there...I've heard many horror stories about scammers, so don't release that truck until you have the funds in hand or funds cleared. If it doesn't sound right or add up, it's probably going to end ugly. Good luck with your sale!!

When selling a vehicle, I always recommend local sources first. More than likely your buyer will want to see/touch the vehicle before buying it, especially if it is $$$.
