How to remove seatbelt?
I have a 69 GMC stepside and working on the interior wanting to dye the seatbelts, researched all the past posts on how to, got that part. Went to remove the belts... the two center belts came out with the center bolts no problem but the two side belts I don't want to mess up the covers as they are in great shape but how do they come out. Underneath the cab I see the welded nut and would assume that they unbolt from the top? But how do you access the bolt? Does the cover slip off? Or does the whole cover and belt housing turn? I am new to these trucks and I don't want to mess up the original coverings on the belt. I know this is a silly question but I have already made some simple mistakes with other parts on the interior and had to replace with reproductions that I was not happy with because original is always better... live and learn I guess. Thanks Robert the newbie.

Re: How to remove seatbelt?
Extend the belt so the metal tongue is pulled out of the way then the plastic cover should be able to slide up the belt revealing the bolt.

Re: How to remove seatbelt?
Thanks dcasalena pulled the retractable lap belt out and held it and worked the cover off it took a little force but it slipped off and there was the bolts. I had a real hard time getting to the one beside the gas tank but I managed to get them out. Took the belt loose from the bracket that holds it down and the springs came loose so pay attention how they come off I had to rewind mine so that they would retract back into the cover. These belt were originally blue but I went with RIT brand dye in black I used the stove top method and simmered them in a pot for 30 minutes with two packs pf the RIT black and then painted the covers and the looking mechanism with Krylon black fusion paint made for plastic the belts turned out looking great! Thanks Robert the newbie.

I have a set of blue ones that I may just dye black and see how they turn out.

Re: How to remove seatbelt?
They turn out very nice when dyed black. Other colors....not so good.
