diesel cabs

Ok, heard a rumor that here in tx i can use a 88-94 diesel cab and put me a built gas motor and not have to worry about emissions. Is this true? Me and a buddy were discussing it but he doesn't think its true. I want to build a shop truck and use another 283 that I'm pretty impressed with. I have access to a few xiesel cabs. Wouldn't mind a 3/4-ton with a simple body lift on tall skinny mudgrips, and a stick of course.

Re: diesel cabs

well i think when they run the vin on the cab it will come up a deisel, so the registration would say emissions exempt, but idk how that would fly come inspectiontime unless ya know the mechanic lol

Re: diesel cabs

unless your vehicle is registered in the counties on this map, you dont have to worry about emissions in TX at all

anyway, with it being an OBD1 vehicle, and emission exempt, you might be able to get away with it, depending on who is checking it, since you work at a body shop, you probably know a few people who run shops in Texas City that will "not notice" its not really a diesel. Otherwise, get it registered in a non emissions country(if you know anyone who owns land in one, just put you a mailing address there, and use that as your address for your registration, or wait a year an a half, until the 88s are grandfathered in and build an 88.....

Re: diesel cabs

It is true,if it is registered as a diesel you don't have emissions testing. You can go about that any way you want. It would be "best" to use a complete diesel truck. They've had testing in Maryland since the '80s and I've never had a vehicle tested because they are all either older or diesel.

Re: diesel cabs

if I did my math right, then yea. lets see
88
+25=2013, so yeah, a year and a half. Depending on how the state views it. if its 25 years from the begining of the year, then Jan. 1 2013, all 88 model vehicles in TX(dont know about the rest of the country, if 25 years is the grandfather limit, then yea) should be emissions exempt

Re: diesel cabs

I'll check on that one. thanks for the info. in my area now there isnt emissions testing at all. 200 miles north in anchorage there is. 20-30 miles north of that in the mat-su valley there isnt emiisions testing but an annual saftey inspection.
