My serpentine build
Just want to let people know what I did to put together my serpentine on my 85. I have read alot of posts over the last couple of years and just pieced together everything that made sence.
I used the accessory brackets and all the bolts, power steering pump, pulley and bolts, idle and tensioner pulleys and bolts, crank pulley, serpentine belt 960k6, all off a 97 s10 blazer v6. On the ps pump I just changed out the high press. bolt from the 85 pump and put it into the blazer pump and used my stock lines. Also, get a power steering pulley puller to get the driver side bracket off. I used the water neck, water pump and pulley off of a 92 c1500 v8. I used a sanden 4440 compressor. I used a alternator from a 92 caddy deville v8, 140 amps. Made the upper mount from a March rod assembly and bolted it into the back of the tensioner pulley with a longer bolt. A connector for the new alternator that plugs into the stock wires into the alternator, EC82 at napa I used a 81221 flex hose from autozone. I did tap a new hole on the passenger side head and went about 3/8 deep. Waiting on the adapter for the compressor and I'm using the stock ac lines (been 134 converted for a while) but cutting them off at the crimp and crimping on two 90s to the adapter the crimp them on to my original lines. Found a place in mesquite that will crimp two lines for $30. I paid 170 for the blazer and caddy parts and Pick and Pull. I paid 40 for the water pump, 11 for the flex hose, 26 for the belt at autozone. I paid 25 for the alternator connector at napa. I paid 170 for the compressor at acpartshouse. Hope this helps someone find what they need for a serpentine swap in one spot, no offense to anyone cause this forum has been where I found all this information. Thanks to everyone who had posted about serpentine swaps. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My serpentine build
And it took about 9 hours from tearing v-belts setup down to starting the truck after the serp belt was on.

Re: My serpentine build
Thanks for the info. I am part way through this job, although it has been on the back burner. Do you have pics of the brackets you used? I am having clearance issues with my valve covers. I could probably get different covers, but I like the ones I have. Thanks.

Re: My serpentine build
The rod assembly was a part that came off of the march bracket kit for the v belt alt. I can get the part no. for the kit if you need it. It is in my tool box. Let me know.
I dont have a pic of just the bracket but I will post what the whole setup looks like from a gm pic. The bracket just barely touches the valve cover on both side but I was still able to push the bracket all the way to the block. I am using the short edelbrock covers. I have no need to get into the valves too much so if it is just touching the bracket, I dont really care. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My serpentine build
Here is the compressor hookup. I got a #8 90 degree and a #10 90 degree fitting to bolt to the compressor manifold. I got these from old air in ft worth. I cut my stock lines at the crimp and crimped these on. Also I replace the orfice tube with a variable one and changed the condensor to a 134 one. The condensor is about 4 inches wider than the r12 one and has alot bigger tubes. I charged the 134 to 27 pounds on the low side and 200 on the high. I have not taken a temp reading yet but on norm setting and medium fan I was getting pretty cold and it was 90 outside.

Re: My serpentine build
Good job! I used the complete deal from a '06 4.3 for mine. I'm very pleased. I have some pictures, if it'll help your thread.

Re: My serpentine build
This is good info. It should be added to the FAQ section, this helps alot of members with thier conversion to a serp. belt set up.

Re: My serpentine build
It may be helpful. I have to dig into mine a little more and do some comparing. There are two very similar systems GM used. The difference is on the aternator side. The idler and tensioning pulleys are different. My problem is valve cover clearance. The picture has lower covers than the ones I am planning to use. I was hoping you might have shot some pictures of the brackets before you installed them. If not, no worries.
Thanks much.
