157" W.B. cab-n-chassis for car hauler??
I'm gettin' a 1 Ton cab-n-chassis delivered on Monday, it's a 157" wheelbase with a Dana 70 rearend and '71 (for now, soon-to-be '68) sheetmetal with 16" Alcoas all around. My plan is to have a "car hauler" bed built for it, as my cousin is a talented fabricator/welder. I'll be trading a SBC build for the work, as that is what I'm good at and after selling off alot of the extras, I should be into the rest for "Free".
My question is: Will this chassis wheelbase present any problems as far as bein' "too short" to be a car hauler for say, my '68 Chevelle (or a '69 C20, for that matter?) The ones I've seen seem to fall into this category of lengths between 157-200", any thoughts? I keep thinkin' I see trucks for sale that are appx. 180"-thereabouts. Is it just my eyes foolin' me? Thanks in advance for any and all input!! ---==Temio Williams Yuba City, CA |

I wish I could answer your question but I can't.
Here's a bump to see if anyone else will chime in. Having an old car hauler would be cool!

It's funny I didn't notice earlier but, the frame doesn't have the little "hump" in it that dictates where the axle placement needs to be. I can technically move the axle and springs back as far as I want, maybe that's why I think I've seen other trucks that look "longer".

I'll try to post pic's in the Project Section, although I have to make myself work on my C10 to get it on the road as my Daily Driver.

Hey Andrewt2,
how about posting some pics of that cool roll back of yours to give him a little motivation?
