Bump stop removal ??
It has become apparent to me that I need to remove the bump stop bracket. What is the best way to get it off? Drill the spot welds, grinder or what?

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Electric grinder with a cut-off wheel works great.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
I remember the bump-stop bracket rivets being in a recessed area on the bracket?? If so, the angle grinder/cut off wheel has to cut the bracket off & then go back & slice the rivets so it can be separated from the frame.
It might be easier to drill these & then separate the bracket from the frame.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
I pulled mine off a set of '77 arms and they did not have any rivets. They had about six spot welds holding the tower to the lower control arms. I used an 8mm spot weld cutting bit and drilled untill it just started to touch the lower control arm. I use a spot weld seperator but a small cold chisel will work to split it from the arm. Then dress the spots as needed.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Are we talking bumpstops on the front lower a-arms?
Or on the rear frame rails? What year truck?

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Oops.... Very true as I was thinking rear bump-stop (I call the front one a steering stop).

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Sorry, I am needingto remove the front brackets on the lower a arm. I think I read somewhere that guys have used an air chisel to remove it. But I'm not sure how to start that process. Do I just start chiseling at an edge. Seems like it might damage the a arm itself.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
A sawzall will also cut them off.
I ususally save the steering stop, so the spindle has something to contact,... and remove the rest of the bumpstop bracket.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Do you happen to have any pics of how you left the steer stop? I was considering that but didn't really see a way to do it still make room for the bag.

It could actually be cut down a little more. This is on a 5.5" static drop truck.

Re: Bump stop removal ??
Thanks for the help, it is done. Although I did not see the pic until I was done, it ended up just about like that.
