Why the switch to leaf springs?

My 68 panel has the radio ant. on the driver side.

He used the truck as a daily driver from the day of the rebuild up until a few years ago when gas prices went up. He used it to pull the car trailer with his Camaro to shows. And he felt the leafs gave the truck a little more stability with the trailer, and it seams to have a much higher payload then mine with coils.

Edit: I just went back and looked at the pics again. It looks like a 5 leaf spring pack with a helper spring under that. I would definitely say the swap has for towing/hauling.

Hey, I actually found photos....I'm not saying this is factory, just saying that's where the hole is. No hole on passenger side. And it's way too clean of a hole for my Uncle to have done, he did everything with a pocket knife and tin snips.
