color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

CC&C (CUST COMF & CONV EQUIP on SPID's) come with color keyed floor mats? What is that? Is that the covering like this:

Or are they mats that go on top of it? Anyone got a description or picture? Thanks

My 69 wrecker has code 618 for custom cloth interior. My truck has the maroon interior and the rubber floor mat was maroon also as shown here:

Here is a picture of "what was said" to be someone's 1969 original floor mat - with the Chevy Bowtie in the circle.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

Wow, thanks! Now I'm even more confused LOL! Just kidding. I've never actually seen floor mats like that Steve - but I think bobs409 may be right! due to a color variation compared to mine. Mine is black on the underside, but more of a tanish color on top - which would match the sandalwood dash and touches on the seat fabric. hmm... I ask because I got a (rubber) mat that looks identical to the original (shown) but it is black and I don't think it is as durable (original is rubber w/vinyl coating?).

Think I could paint it to match original, and would it stay?
I have another mat that I may reuse to lay over the repro.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

I think that the covering shown in your pic is a color keyed floor mat if your truck has the Z62 option.

After I washed all the dirt off my floor mat, I exposed what looks like a saddle colored factory floormat. This would fit in with the color keyed floor mat theory since mine is a white / saddle truck with SPID 4Z62BC CUST-COMF&APPEAR EQ.

I think all this info shows up in something known as the Price & Facts Book according to this info I copied from a post made by 54blackhornet some time ago.

Quote for Custom Comfort & Appearence Group
No. Z62 Interior
Bright Windshield Mouldings
Ventpane mouldings
Custom emblems on cab doors,
Bright rear window moulding
Bright control knob inserts
Bright Chevrolet nameplate on glove box
Color keyed vinyl coated rubber floor mats
Parking brake ratchet cover
Full depth foam seat with color- keyed vinyl and woven fabric
RH & LH armrests
Cigar lighter
Cowl insulation
Full underbody sprayed mastic
Embossed vinyl door trim panel

Last I looked, no one reproduces a stock-looking color keyed floor mat in colors other than black. I could use a new one I bet it would look sharp.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

Thanks for the info and pictures all. bollybib, I remember reading your build a while back. Very cool! I think you described my truck to a T with the information you posted. My SPID does show Z62. There are some items labeled differently or are not available on mine - though I'm thinking your description is for an older model. Mine's a 71'. Are both of those pictures of Chevy trucks or GMC (also the description)? Because mine doesn't have the name plate on the glove box door like both of those.

Think I can buy some vinyl paint, or rubber paint (?), and color the one I bought? Think it'd hold up? I know you can get color match and canned. I plan on putting back the floor mat that came with the truck when I bought it.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

. . . . .

So, what would a truck have on the floor if it DIDN'T have the Z62 option ? Just a metal floor ?

I've always thought that "rubber floor mat"S" would be TWO mats.

In my younger years, we bought many new cars that had original rubber floor mats: 64 Mustang, 71 Cadillac, 70 Cougar etc ( I've washed them all - MANY TIMES !!! )

Are there any original owners out there that are on my side ?

. . . .

These look like the ones in my 69 Chevelle. Might be original.

I would think this type of mat would only be used when there was carpeting. The full floor mat took the place of carpeting.

I love the full mats. So much nicer than trying to keep carpeting clean!

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

My guess is that if you didn't get the Z62 option, you would get a black mat regardless of the paint color.

I can't say what year that option list I posted earlier is for. The original poster didn't say.

Anyone know where one could obtain a Price & Facts Book ??? (they seem to be elusive).

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

Looks like we're talking about two distinct items.

1. The floor covering that is permanently affixed to the cab floor.

2. A protective mat that is removable that protects the permanent floor covering beneath.

Both get called floor mats which can be confusing.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

From what I had read somewhere, the "color-keyed floor mat" was vinyl coated. I think that might make sense that the colored mats shown here are painted with a vinyl paint. Though I'm pretty sure its a much higher quality rubber than what is made today (or at least what is available for purchase). For me, having the additional mat to lay on top - will help to protect it so my shoes don't wear a hole in it as seen in the picture up thread. I'll try and paint it, then the black mat on top. Color will be visible around the outer edges.

To my knowledge, this is the only thread with this information, so keep the pictures and info coming!

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

Steve the mats you show are correct for carpet trucks, the rubber floor mat is the floor overing use rather than carpet. The set you have pitured as well as the set of blue ones are the right ones for our trucks as well as full size cars.

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

---------------------

So, the Z62 code in the description below, would have given the truck a full floor "colored" mat instead of black - OR - two floor mats if it already had carpeting ? My 70 C-10 with Z62 listed on it's original SPID, does have all the things listed below and it had a full floor mat when I bought it 15 years ago that I "THINK" was blue. ( the only picture I have of the inside back then isn't clear enough to tell and I threw it away just about as soon as I got, it because it was just about GONE )

Re: color keyed floor mats - anyone got a pic?

These came on my 1970 GMC Sierra Grande. The have the scroll pattern and no part number. I have seen another members truck with similar style but the two sides were connected like a full floor mat, over the hump style. Nothing on the spid or build sheet; perhaps Sierra Grande specific or dealer item? Carpet has since been replaced.

That is what I am understanding. Either they had the "Full color-keyed mat (e.g. covering)" or Carpet with (2) individual mats on top.
