I made these diagrams to help my customers.
This is how I wire up a compressor for air bags with the relay switching positive power. It can be used for cooling fans also.  This one is with negative switching. I think it works best for higher amp draws. Use a 30/40 amp relay. I never had overheated wires or terminals this way.
