72 c20 a arm question

So I jacked up the truck and the front passenger side upper a arm moved. Long story short, the two studs or bolts that come through the frame with the shims on them and hold the a arm on are loose. I tried to tighten the nuts but can't get to the back and the stud/bolt spin when I try to tighten the nuts. Any insight on how to fix this? Thanks for any help.

Your going to have to try harder but they are serviceable & are specifically built to allow access (unless modified @ some point). The alternative is to try & weld the stud in place but it would need to be square & 100% seated to do so which requires accessing it as if you were going to tighten or R&R the stud.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: 72 c20 a arm question

So is there a head of some sort on the back side? I felt around and all I could feel was a smooth round spot that's why I wasnt sure if it's supposed to be a stud that's pressed in or a bolt of some sort that needs a backer to tighten the front nut. Thanks again for any help.

Re: 72 c20 a arm question

There are access holes in the frame to allow getting to the studs. The studs/bolts are actually splined on the ends & are an interference fit that press into place.

So do they press in from behind?
