Lowering Help
I know there is a lot of talks on the forum regarding lowering but I just couldn;t find the specific answers I was looking for. I have a 72 SWB with all four corners having the stock coil springs. I would like to lower it. I am going for a Stock meets custom look and am currently planning to put some 17" Cragar 8s on all for corners. I would like to know your opinions for lowering heights. I would like to stick with a springs only approach and maintain stock shock size. I'm thinking a 1/3 drop or a 2/4? Your input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks. This forum is great. |

There's nothing wrong w/just doing drop coils. But, a 2.5/4 drop w/spindles & your current coils in the front plus 1-1.5" lowering blocks in the rear w/a 2-3" drop spring & the ride doesn't change @ all.

Re: Lowering Help
Amen Scott! I personally think the lower the better...On my old 68 I did 2 1/2 drop spindels with a 1" drop coil and the the rear was a flip kit cuz I had leaf springs and it looked tuff. The ride was great...I also use new stock shocks all around which I bought at auto zone. My wheels were 15s. Truck handled nice and looked good.. If ya you want a 1 " drop then just leave it like it is ...after so many years your probably at 1 1/2 sitting as it is. Good luck

Re: Lowering Help
This was mine with a three front, two rear, all springs. It was a BB, so I used BB springs.

Re: Lowering Help
I too am a fan of the lower the better. I think tire size will play a big role in how low you "should" go. I like the look of minimal wheel gap from tire to fender. With 17's, this probably means a 3/5 or 4/6 drop...but that's my opinion.

I currently have 6 cylinder front coil springs up front and am running 17" cragars (9" wide) I am putting on 2.5" drop spindles today, will post pictures after I am finished,,,,,,,, ps I am also running a 91 burb front crossmember and a arms so I am a little wider in the front than you.......I am concerned about the additional width the spindle will add to my clearance....will see what happens....Kieth I also have air bags on the rear and no notch, but I have a notch on the way but thought I would wait so see how things looked overall and then put the notch in to improve the amount of travel the suspension has after dropping the front....... http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...7_nS2QZT6-A-LB |
