Rubber Squares for Mounting Bed to frame - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Those Rubber Squares that everyone is selling to go between the Bed and the frame when you mount it... were they originally on these trucks new? I had none when I took mine off but all the bolts were also real snug. (Not loose) like I would imagine it would be if there was a 1/4" thick piece of rubber that had fallen out???

I put some on my truck before I got it painted. Jacked the bed WAY up. The body lines weren't even close.

i've always made my own the rubber i use is less than 1/8" thick and doesnt noticablly affect body line ailignment

my reason for using rubber was to prevent squeaks and rattles in the future

These trucks did not have pads when new.

No they did not have them and these are old trucks they suppose to squeak and rattle! LOL !!

I did the same thing. I took them out after my body lines wouldnt line up.

Yep. It's metal on metal for me now. No squeaks. I probably can't hear them over the exhaust anyway if there are any. Or that roaring V8 under the hood. Or the stereo for that matter...

I've never seen them on a truck I've taken apart. I added them to the stepside I'm putting together since the boards hit the frame rivets without them. I'm hoping that on a stepside the alignment of the bed to the cab isn't as noticeable.

I had them on also but removed them as I figured without them my frame to bed would have a better ground...sounded good to me

Yes the raise up the bed and alter the body lines. I decided not to use them.

i've always built my old trucks with the ability of long distance travel on a very regular basis. to me squeaks and rattles when driving 800-900 miles in a day is neither cool nor acceptable. when a little bit of effort and thought building will avoid those annoying to me traits

Yes Sir, Built trucks all my life. Rubber pads under your bed is not going to stop squeaks and rattles Actually as the rubber deteriorates it leaves play between the frame and the cross sills yet causing squeaks and rattles or maybe you tighten your bed bolts a couple times a year. So I really still don't understand your point??? But to each his own.
