rebuilding my tailgate inside - out.
hey guys,
the tailgate on my truck isn't working so hot anymore and i seem to recall a tutorial somewhere on here about servicing the internals. trouble is that i can't find it or remember who it was by.... do any of you guys remember?

Not sure of the thread, but it is fairly easy to take apart. Just be careful not to break the clips that hold the rods to the handle. Easy to scratch the paint also, if you are worried about that. Clean all the parts up, straighten the handle if it is bent (typical problem with these), grease it up good and put it back together.

Anyone have any secerts for freeing up a crusty handle? PB blaster worked somewhat the first time I pulled the handle out but i'd like to get it back to almost new quality.

Remove it, and clean the rust and paint off the pivot. Douse it with atf, work it until its smooth. If its real bad, toss the handle into a tin of atf and let it soak for a few days, wire brush off the crud, work it, soak it, until your happy with it. Keep well lubed afterward.
