Re: Modern radio

I've got a CD/Mp3/Ipod Pioneer head unit in mine. Just make the whole the right size and slide the h/u in there. I don't think I have a decent pic of it, but I will say this...do NOT re use any of the old speaker wire while you already have everything apart. Having newer decent quality speaker wire in there helps SO much when trying to get decent sound out of the tin can interior.

Sorry, don't have a picture but if you are trying to get modern sound in your truck, think about this. You can install an ipod/iphone connection pretty cheap. You'll get loads of digital music and with an i phone you can get FM stations.

You can keep the old AM radio, keep your dash uncut & still have great music.

Here's a how to link.

Re: Modern radio

Larry...
I bought what I think was like an "8480" model on the parts page above from the wreckin yard for 10 bucks a few months ago.
It had the cassette deck with an AM/FM radio.
I had a factory '63 GMC radio bezel in the gold cabinet and a few hours to kill......
So I dissected the radio, removed the cassette door, took a die grinder to recess the front a bit, spread the knobs out past their intended position...did a few more unorthodox electronic mod's with steel-fab tools.....grafted it all together....and " Viola "....I've now got at least a nice radio....and it looks pretty nice if you're not expecting OE.
I will take a couple of close pictures and post them in a bit.

Re: Modern radio

Nice job on the radio. I have a sears radio with an 8 track in it. Wires are red, blue, green & black. Red is 12v. black is ground & the other 2 are L & R speakers. How do the speaker wires hook up? Is the black a body ground or a speaker ground? Me & figuring out electrical are far apart.
Thanks Larry

Re: Modern radio

Shoot, Larry.
I guess if it were me....I'd follow that train of thought 'till I found out different.
I know that most of the older radios required 8ohm instead of 4ohm speakers.....are you planning on installing that 8 track into your dash...?.....or is there a different plan.....What are you thinkin....I found a big ol' box of 8 track tapes at a garage sale yesterday....for fifty cents apiece...
Thats a box of history for ya.
