parts and weird mirrors.
I've got a 1970 CST10, I've been hunting replacement parts, particularly I'm looking for side mirrors and a kit to make my windows and doors electronic.
When I started looking I found mirrors listed for my truck but they don't look anything like the ones on my truck. Mine are small tripods with a little ring on the back that the bolt goes through from the tripod. All the ones I see on the various sites I've found had like a ball joint on the back. As for window and lock kits I havn't found any. most of the sites I've tried make you flip through scanned images of their catelogue, I don't really like that makes it a pain in the butt to find what I need. Some sites only have certain bits I need and I'd love to make a single purchase instead of ordering from multiple spots. |

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
also, I'm looking to totally rewire the entire truck, including the AC, etc. I've been debating using just wire and connectors or go with a painless set up, (parts 10206, and 30901). Any advice or suggestions on that?

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
I just installed the Speedway motors 20 Circuit wiring harness for 1/3 of the price of the Painless. It went in very easily, however I would warn you to go ahead and purchase extra metal brad things that go inside the connectors. I ran out and it is hard to find them locally. It came with a great 6 page color diagram, and I was able to use my stock interior-engine bay connectors by replacing the wires, even used a few extra holes. The wires are clearly marked wit not only the reference number, but the name of the wire i.e. Courtesy Light Rtn. (28) The only issue I had with the kit is the headlight dimmer switch that comes with the kit is very very flimsy, But my old one was still good and it uses the sock connectors on the new harness, oh and the screw mounting holes are on the opposite corners than the stock fuse box.
Over all, I think it was a great buy Check it out for yourself... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedw...DisplayId=2352 Last edited by 69GMCCustom; 09-17-2011 at 01:58 AM. Reason: forgot to include link |

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
very nice. Will that be 'all' the wiring I need? Cause I need to redo the tail lights, trailer lights, the entire engine compartment which includes the HEI and MDS ignition, and the Air Conditioner.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
I am not knowledgeable enough to tell you a definate yes, however I did not hook up my ac circuit (need a compressor) but I also did not use any of the "Accessory circuit" which is designed for your power windows/power seats etc. I only used 14 out of the 20 circuits (it comes with a CB circuit as well) so there is plenty of room for me to expand. It did not come with the other harnesses, like the windshield wiper switch to motor, only the hot for the circuit, however it does have a new dimmer/headlight switch and prewired stock connector. After my install I would say I have enough spare wire to rebuild that and the heater coil/ac harness without problems tho.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
I did not do the engine compartment yet, as I connected to the old firewall block. I need to order more of the metal tabs to redo the firewall connector, then i can give you more information on that. I wanted to keep the stock connector so I wouldn't have to seal that large square hole in my firewall.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
sounds like I might want to just get connectors and wires and do this myself. there are a lot of wires to be run and with as bad as the wiring is in my truck right now it might be best to just gut hte wires and start hookin things back up one at a time. problem is there's wires in there I've got no idea what they're for.
Still can't find my freakin mirrors either. |

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
If you look at my public profile there's a bigger pictuer of the truck there that you can see the mirror on the driver side pretty well.
I've found similar looking mirrors on LMC but the mirror is tall, not wide. |

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
Ask if anyone who has purchased those can check for you, or call LMC but I have one of the round peep types shown there and it swivels 360. You might be able to buy the tall ones and rotate the mirror so it is long.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
If you look at the picture here, the one on the right looks exactly like my mirrors did except for one minor difference. Mine were horizontal instead of vertical. I can't find anything, anywhere that looks like what I've got on my truck.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
you know what, screw it. I only have to have 1 mirror to pass inspection, I'm just gonna remove those and put some peeps on it later. I'll jsut worry about getting the wiring done and installing the electric windows/locks

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
they flew off while I was going down the road :P the tripod is still there but hte little flange that held the mirror on had rusted out pretty bad and broke.
I think I'm just gonna take em off entirely. I just ordered the power window kits for the truck now I have to figure out if I'mgonna buy a wiring harness or just go commando with a spool of wire and rewire it from scratch. I need to redo the cab and the engine compartment and the engine compartment has some non stock bits like the MDS ignitioon and HEI distributor so I think finding a harness for that will be hard. |

Ah. LOL. The mirrors look pretty good in the pics. Not sure about the Speedway kit but I believe you can order from Painless and have them integrate those options into the harness when they build it. |

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
I think I'm just gonna get connectors and replace one wire at a time. I just have to figure out what sort of connectors I need, how many different wire gauges, and how much wire I need.

Re: parts and weird mirrors.
if you cant find them on the catalogs they probably didnt come stock on the trucks and were improvised from a different model/type.
you can usually find decent mirrors in our classifieds for cheap. as for the harness, depends on if u want to pay the extra for it, or if u have the time and ability to make your own for a bit less.
