seatbelts not retracting
My son was helping me take the seatbelts out of the 69 last night and he removed the small nut on the outside passenger retracting seatbelt and it wont wind back up. Whats the trick to making it retract again.

Re: seatbelts not retracting
Funny I looked at that nut the other day on mine thinking it maybe a way of removing the belt & buckle from the boot.....but it maybe like a tape measure so when the tension spring unwinds it's ready for the trash, or, the fact that it has a nut on the end may suggest that it can be removed for repair or replcement and then re-wound.
This is complete guess work mind.

Re: seatbelts not retracting
Mine used to retract, then I took them apart to clean. No more retracting...there must be some magic trick to winding them because I tried holding my tongue every way and never got it right. So now my son gets out of the truck and they get shut in the door.
Curious too...

Re: seatbelts not retracting
I took mine apart to clean also. I have no idea how to explain what I did. You have to wind one piece up, stick it in the plastic tube, and stick it in the bracket. It takes a bit of coordination (that's why it took me about 25 tries).

Re: seatbelts not retracting
Second time was a charm, so I dont know if I can explain it without pictures but here goes: Revove the retractor bolt and nut and the gently slide out the tube that the bolt goes through, it will be inside of the seatbelt end, that tube has two plastic plugs on the ends and a spring is inside the tube, if the spring is broken then there is your problem, but a doner and replace it, if its intact it just slipped out of the plastic plugs (they have a small hole that the spring end fits into) put it back in you might have to bend the spring end stright again and put the tube plugs back in. There is a slot in the bolt that lines up with the plug, so it only goes in one way, wind the belt back into the retractor and line up the bolt with the plastic plug slot and run it through the seatbelt mount, put the nut back on and not tight as it has to spin and your belt should retract, it took me two trys.
