Question about front & rear ends
I've got a '59 3/4 ton stepside. The darn truck is as old as me, which is why I bought it, and is why I'm embarrassed to ask a question like this.... I see folks cutting in camaro, chevelle and other IFS front ends, but how do you know what will fit and work? I hit swap meets whenever I can and see this stuff, but don't know what will work. Same with the rear end suspension. I'd like to lower my 3600 but don't see much of anything in the catalogs that will help me accomplish that. It's all geared towards 1/2 ton stuff. Anybody shed any light on this to an oldnewbie? Thanks guys.. and gals |

Re: Question about front & rear ends
When I want to swap parts around, I start by using a measuring tape and getting all the critical measurements of whatever I want to replace... and I measure what I want to change as well...
for example, lets say on the rear axle of my truck, its X wide, and I want it 3" wider, plus or minus an inch. I now have a range for rears. then I pick the type of rear I want... in my case a 9-inch. I then search around until I find what vehicles had a 9" in my range.. (or I find what ones I can shorten to my desired range) its really alot of measuring, and online research. of course, forums like this can make it much easier, because someone may have already done the grunt work to know what works. |

Re: Question about front & rear ends
There are a lot of threads with the camaro clip on the Task Force Trucks,pm me your addy and I'll send you some pictures of a truck with a camaro clip. The camaro works real good on your truck because of the width. Ray

Thanks for the replies. PM sent Ray.
Didn't know if there was a reference section that had a lot of this information or not. |
