65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

my new truck made it home tonight. I guess that I should say new body for my old panel which was an original 4 x 4

it is on an 84 4 x 4 frame which is slated for the scrap pile. it makes for a beastly looking mounting and the frame was never shortened for the 115" w/b.
it does require the usual floor and rocker repair and is a lot less work than the other suburban body which I have, there is a little repair to be done on the body(not inc the frt end for which I have some good stuff)

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

well I am not going to slam it or what ever they call that procedure.
not a restoration as such and my orig GMC is Canadian production it has a 283 . the only real outward deviation will be wheels and perhaps seating. this one comes with the frt 60/40 and the second seat, but I have newer seating and no one really rides with me other than the dog. I do use it for work,(furniture work). the back seat would just be in the way. I did have a third seat which I packed around for about 16 or 17 years which I finally turfed as no one wanted it and it was just taking up space.
I do have 3/4t axles under it and the trans and t/c have been upgraded. I may put a newer eng in it at some point.I have a good 5.7tbi eng sitting .

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

te guy stuck it on a 84 4 x 4 and there are some pretty high frt mounts in there. The way that it is sitting makes it look a little higher also. here is no motor or trans in it either. I will take pics of it while I dismantle it'

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

these are the old body mount bolts out of the back of my old panel. I would take that they are the originals. not much holding it on.

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

no problem as he didn't alter any of the original body parts. it will just sit back on an original frame as my panel frame is and same mounting brackets

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

here is what he did with the back mounts

By rondavid at 2011-09-22

By rondavid at 2011-09-22

he just cut the back of the frame off and stuck it on top of the other one, with the trailer hitch still attached to the old frame(good thing that he didn't tow anything I hope) then for the middle mount between these two is a piece of 2 x 4 box welded to the frame and bolted to the body. can't believe it.
my collection of stock rear fuel tanks and doors now stands at 4

Re: 65 GMC suburban 4 x 4

Nice find Ron, my favorite part are those quick release wing nut body mounts. One never knows when you may need to do a quick R&R of the body when there are no tools around. The things some people do makes you scratch your head.

Keep the pics coming ...... good luck.....Rush

I agree 100%.....I have seen some pretty scary sh!t in the past, but I still shake my head when I see it again. I sometimes wish I could make these people realize that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
