63 Chevy SWB 4 X 4 off the mountain

Drugged this down the mountain the other night. Someone put a 366 big block in it. Not too bad a start for a new project. Would like to put a 327 back in it.

Looks like a decent solid truck....nice score. Did they hack things up to install the big block?

I have to say, looking at the firewall and steering column and badges on the cowl corners, I would say it is a '62 with a '63 grill. Of course who knows what all has been changed over the years.

63 GENIII,
1/2 ton axles, got a set of 3/4 ton for it. Runs good.

Got it north of Berryville, bet it is the same truck. East of Fort Smith 60 miles on HWY 22.

I was lucky they built a cross member motormount and just bolted it in. Did not cut the frame, they custom built the exhaust manifolds out of pipe, cleared the frame. Is there a way to tell the difference of a 62 or 63 cab, do they mount different on the frame?

A couple of easy ways to ID a '60-'62 cab from the '63-'66's is the front cab mounts on the '60-'62's are farther from the frame than the '63-'66's. The front bolts on the '63-'66's are only about 3" out from the frame. One other way is the provisions for the combination brake master and clutch master on the firewall. The '63-'66's did not have a hydraulic clutch. Another way is the '60-'62's had the cable operated vents in the kick panels with the louvers. One thing I saw in one of your pics above is the steering column shaft just forward of the firewall support. The '60-'62's have that kind of universal joint there whereas the '63-'66's do not. They have just one solid shaft from the steering wheel to the rag joint.
