Well. My 68 Caught on fire

Hello everyone. Well my truck caught on fire this weekend ( What a great way to spend labor day weekend right) I I loved this truck . My insurance company wanted to just take the car to a salvage yard and I was like **** that. I have way to of an attachment to just let her go like that so its in my driveway getting prepped up for a restore. But yeah. Heres the pics.
Heres my baby before the fire

Heres the fire

Before

After

Everything points to a fuel leak. Especially the long trail of gas behind the truck . Right now she's sitting in my driveway with all the interior ripped out as I'm going to restore her. I'm planning on throwing in an LS1 ( I've read up a lot on it) and anyone who has any helpful tips for me or anything regarding that feel welcome to chime in. I was thinking of throwing in the LS1 out of a GTO if that isn't to bad of an Idea? Whats the big difference between the GTO version versus the Corvette one? Engine in the truck was cammed with some other work done to it. Only had 40k miles also. It was fun but I want the added benefits of a newer engine

Re: Well. My 68 Caught on fire

Stevo427, I am so sorry this has happened to your truck. Very sad.
We usually start with a big "welcome to the board" but, considering
the tragic first post...so sorry we had to meet this way.

It sure looks like you know your way around these trucks and I admire
your calm, all things considered. Very nice truck, even after the fire.

Thanks for your post and I hope we can be of great help in
your reserection of that beauty.

PS: We have a special place on the board for the LS enthusiasts HERE
so you should find yourself in good company with many answers.

I feel your pain Stevo, I had an '85 K10 burn up about 15 years ago...sold it for parts. Good luck with your rebuild! This is like a 'do over' - now you get to do all the things you wish you'd done!

Thanks guys..and that's exactly the way I see it. Sucks it had to happen this way but at least no one got hurt and the truck is back at home.

No words can describe the tragedy that has happened. Thankfully it's only a flesh wound and a good doctor can fix her up in no time. Keep us posted on the progress.

Re: Well. My 68 Caught on fire

You say fuel tank? Did a line pop off, or did the tank leak? I'm just curious. Good luck on your rebuild. LS1 would be awesome.

I'm really sorry to hear about your luck, beautiful truck! I'm gettin' pushed around by a flooding issue right now and scared of something similar happening. Good luck with yours.

Re: Well. My 68 Caught on fire

Wow. Sorry about the burn. They aren't that hard to rebuild. Mine has been sitting for 3 years since it burned, but I am finally getting some work done on it. I will follow your build as you go.
