Angry Grr... Bertha's living up to her nickname

So last night I decide to fire up my 86 GMC Suburban to help a friend move a TV.

I hadn't run it since last time I posted about 2 weeks ago (i know.. darn that life getting in the way).

It cranked...

and cranked...

and cranked...

and killed the battery....

and cranked on the jumpers...

after checking every vacuum connection it fired up... and died...

and cranked and cranked...

I pulled the #1 spark plug as when I took off the carb cover I could see vapor rising from the carp (fuel)..

I could hear the engine lug as it hit #1...

Got nice tinglies from the plug boot as i tried to get it to spark (and it was fouled pretty bad especially since i put new ones in only about 2-3000 miles ago)

Finally I got it running, and with the application of a 2x4 to the gas pedal it stayed that way....

I kept it running with the 2x4 and revving the engine in neutral at every stop until we unloaded the tv...

an hour later it does start up after just 2 cranks...
I leave it running / revving with the 2x4 for almost 1/2 hour before moving out. A fair amount of whitish/gray smoke coming from the exhaust with a significant fuel smell.

On the way home though it dies 4 times.. at least it cranks right up each time.

Some observations about last time vs. now...

2 weeks ago when I finished my vacuum re-routing it was about 95-103 degrees... last night it was only about 78...

apart from that I have no idea what might be different

suggestions... comments... ideas...

Could be old fuel... My truck was doing that as well for a while, and it still does burn really rich as I could only put a couple of litres of fuel into it with the jerry can.

I guess filling the 40 gal tank wasn't so wise then

I'll pick up some stabilizer as it has about 30 gallons left in there...

The plugs may also be fuel-fouled. This "gasoline" we have these days will dry out on the insulator & leave a conductive residue.
