Do you have a riser under the carb? Add one if not, could be fuel is heating up and you have vapor lock. Or, your choke is acting up.

Re: sbc 400 stalling out need HELP

Years ago my x mother inlaw had a 73 buick lasabre that started running real bad, we messed with everything we could think of and then some, we were stumped. As a last resort we droped the exhaust after the y pipe, it ran purfect, we could roast the tires easy, the exhaust pipe collapsed on the inside, installed new exhaust and no more problems. (car never had cats)

Any way hows your exhaust? I think we are all running out of ideas.

UPDATE Re: sbc 400 stalling out need HELP

before i pulled the motor i sent the truck to a buds shop. They checked carb, timing, heads, valves, they installed a fuel regultor cause my stock mech, fuel pump was putting out 12psi of fuel. now its set at 7psi. But still running like crap.
NOW they installed two distributors no change, but the 2nd distributor they disconnected my vacuum advance "no more vacuum advance" set the timing and it runs perfect. they reset my timing, drove and no problems, i also had to change to a mini starter so i could turn the motor over now cause its advanced in timeing. But i cant get a str8 answer from the shop or anyone, why did i have to change from a stock distributor with mech. vacuum advance to no mech. vacuum advance???

Re: sbc 400 stalling out need HELP

Sounds like you have hit all the obvious things except the motor internals. You say the motor has been rebulit within the past 800 miles. Could the valves be adjusted too tightly? I have recently come accross a motor that wast rebulit by a so called reputable engine builder and found that the minimum wage man did the valve job. He ground the valves and seats too far and the springs did not have any shims. So everything looked good but really had no compression to speak of. Oh he ground the valves till there was nothing left and the seats were so far down it must have added some CCs to the chambers. The shop that built the moter had no explanation other than he's built race motors for years

Re: sbc 400 stalling out need HELP
