Took it out for the first long drive

I decided to take the truck out this afternoon for a longer drive. I snapped this picture with the Beartooth mountains in the background.

With a clear windshield and the headlight relay upgrade, I can drive at night without hesitation. I can see as well as either of my newer cars. With the 350/700r4 combo and 3.73's, I also managed 15 mpg on the nose, which is a 50% improvement over the turbo 350 with 4.10's.

Yes, it was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it!

Re: Took it out for the first long drive

Thats awesome! Its a great feeling to finally be able to enjoy the finished product after all the hard work you've put into it. I got to put about 45 miles on the blue '65 I restored before we had to give it back to the owners and you don't really get the "its finished" feeling til you've put some miles on it.

Great shot, looks like a commercial shot you just need to add some words next to it.

What a spectacular picture. Seriously, you should submit that photo to the Stovebolt website for inclusion in the 2012 calendar they have printed.

Re: Took it out for the first long drive

Thanks everyone! I couldn't believe how great the non-closeup shot turned out. I tried a bunch of close-ups of the truck and they don't look great.

Unfortunately, I've had my camera set to take low-resolution pictures for easier upload to the site of routine build photos. This one gets pretty grainy when you blow it up to 8x11 size. I might just try to recreate it some evening.

It doesn't take much of an excuse for me to go on a drive.
