Carb Help Quick Please

on a quadrajet, how far should the air screws be turned out on the bottom of the carb? i have mine set to about 2.5 turns out, and it seems really rich. which way do i turn the screws to lean out the mixute? thanx fer all tha help guys

A good starting point for the idle jets is to turn them in until they stop, (gently) and then back them out 1 1/2 - 2 turns. There are things that can affect the idle, vacuum leaks, timing, carb leaks, etc. but the settings will work as a start.
