Resurrecting/building a gauge cluster.

I've gotten my tach/small fuel gauge white-faced gauge cluster back a couple months ago, and tonight I started doing some digging. I mean, I have four gauge clusters sitting around, so why not?

This is what was left of the cluster I built when I was 17 was given back to me. I scrapped the Blazer and gave my friend the cluster.

Here's what the fuel gauge and tach actually are.

I've gotten an electronic speedo, which I will FIND a way to make it work with my SM465/NP208 setup. Something GM FWD might have something that works. luckily my Blazer is TBI. I've even thrown in the 1990's light inserts, so just the lettering lights up rather than the whole insert.

I had to swap out the copper thing on the back because it was shorted out at some point. I have another two, thankfully

This is with my fuel gauge jumper wire [piece of an N64 controller wire]

Hopes and dreams... the white paper was just for humor

More pics to come as I progress, and hopefully find a rig to make that speedometer work.

OH, ALMOST FORGOT. Anyone know of any vehicles that they make white gauge inserts like I used, but something that has an 8,000RPM tach? Doesn't have to be specific, as long as it somewhat matches the square gauges.

How are you able to remove the needles and reatatch and still read correct?

Re: Resurrecting/building a gauge cluster.

Thanks B454, I'll dig through here for a tach insert.

Honestly, I lust point the needle at a ceartin spot and carefully pull it off without moving or turning it. The fuel gauge unit itsself is from the large gauge, I just mated it to the clock face and put an old temp gauge needle on it.

The tach, I had to make a gauge using the center from the old SunPro tach and drilling a hole through the large fuel gauge needle. The tach always reverts itsself back to 0.

The bad thing is I drew it wrong, I need one that goes 0-8, not 0-7

Re: Resurrecting/building a gauge cluster.

I know some guys were using a 3rd Gen Camaro tach, and making them work. I don`t know what the redline is, but you can prob get white faces for those. The font is similar but not exact. Did you try doing a search on here for tach info? I think I saw the camaro set up on here.
