?'s about 71-72 flatbeds

I found a 71-72 flatbed today for sale at a good price. There is no Spid but on the vin tad in the door it says 8000lbs and next to that is 14,000 lbs. It has 8 lug wheels and dual rear wheels. It has a 350 with a granny gear 4 speed. Im looking for something to pull my car trailer. It looks like its fresh off the farm. Can anybody tell any info on it based on this. I called the owner and had to leave a message. There was also no fender emblems on it
Thanks, Bryan

Re: ?'s about 71-72 flatbeds

the option for the flatbed would be

E56 Platform and stake rack
E57 Platform body

That sounds like a true C/30 with the gvw..look it sould be a HO52 rear..and have front disc brakes..

It should also have dually rims up front..if they are not..someone made it..

Re: ?'s about 71-72 flatbeds

I stopped and looked at it again after I picked my daughter up at school. It does have the SPID in the glovebox. For some reason I was thinking the SPID was gone. It does have E56 stake on it. It also has the dually front wheel and disc brakes on front. It has 9000lbs instead of the 8000lbs on the vin plate in the door as I thought. The stake bed is in really good shape but the cab corners, rockers, etc are rusted. It looked good across the top of the windshield. It also has the cab lights on top. Even the tires are in good shape. The grill is missing and the hood is locked with a chain and padlock. I guess its locked because its sitting on side of the road and no houses are around. Are these pretty rare? Anyone with any more info?

Thanks,
Bryan

Re: ?'s about 71-72 flatbeds

its a factory flatbed allright

they made 11,438 C/30 cab and chassis that year in 1971 ,most were sold without bodies..so it is still a rare truck.

cab corners and rockers every truck needs..get it and fix it up as you work it..

disc brakes is a plus when pulling a load..

if its a 72 14,988

I drove a 69 C/30 years ago at a local junkyard...it was a 9foot dump truck..we loaded a whole load of manual flywheels on it...it was almost doing a wheel stand..,went to the scrap yard..and the fellow there said there is no way that thing wound dump they heavy a load..

I revved up the 250 6cyl to 3500 and pto on the 4speed and it did dump it..

we had 8,500 pounds on it...LOL it was drum all around and would only do 20mph there but it did do it.
