Noise troubleshoot

Hey guys,
I recently bought a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500. This is my first truck and so far i have been doing good working out all of the problems, but i have recently run into a noise coming from the rear of the truck that I am having trouble figuring out. It almost sounded like a tick from an exhaust leak so when i parked the truck I hit the gas a little and it went away. Now the noise is almost a whine, but it only makes noise when im on the gas. There is no noise when Im coasting so I dont think it would be a bearing. One of my friends listened as i drove away from him and said that he believes it is coming from the passenger rear tire. If anyone has any thoughts please let me no. Thanks.

Is it only while you are moving? Could be somthing in the brake. Take it apart and see what you find.

Re: Noise troubleshoot

Jack it up and check/clean your brakes, I'd also pop the driveshaft off and check the U joints.

Re: Noise troubleshoot

I checked my brakes and they were good and looked over my U joints. The the front U Joint on my drive shaft has some wet oil on the outside of it. It is supposed to be a sealed joint and has no grease fitting on it. There is also wet oil splatter on the underside of my cab right above the U joint and around the sides of the joint on my frame. So my guess is that it may be that U joint. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Re: Noise troubleshoot

Two weekends ago now, I pulled the driveshaft out of my truck and looked at both U joints. Turns out that the rear joint on the shaft was broke. while i had the driveshaft out, I decided to replace both joints. I have benn running the truck for a week now and the noise is gone. Thank you guys for your help.
