Drop Spring Install Help

Great Forum!

I'm installing a set of Classic performance Products 3" drop springs into my '71 c-10. I've replaced all of the ball joints, Tie rods and ect at the same time. What I'm finding on reassembling the d*!m thing is that the spring is not compressed at all when everything is bolted in correctly. It flops around a bit (Without the tire on) and I'm afraid if my front wheel ever left the ground, the thing would fall out.

Anyone out there ever have this problem? I'm stupid, I know, but a case of beer to the first answer that fixes this.

There is a rubber bumper that keeps the suspension from drooping too far. Sounds like yours are gone. It contacts the upper a-arm. Also, the shocks will keep it from extending too far. Have you got the shocks bolted on yet?

Check these two points, I bet one of them will be the culprit.

Thanks for Replying! I'm making myself nuts over wondering if the spring is supposed to fit tight or not.

The Rubbers are all there, and in great condition. I haven't bolted the shock on yet, but I was going with the assumption that the spring *SHOULD* not rattle around at full suspension droop. It compresses and fits nice at about 1.5" compression, so I'm sure that when the wheel is on the ground it won't move. But, what if the front end leaves the ground while I'm driving and the suspension bottoms out?

I'll try the Shock this afternoon and see what happens. Thanks again! this forum rocks my world!

You will probably have to compress the spring at least the 1 1/2 inches just to line up the shock bolt.

Relax man, 3 inch drop springs are great, you'll have no problems!

Holy crap lets hope that doesn't happen...besides when would a lowered truck be catching air unless your jumping it in downtown San Francisco!

On a more serious note, I'm sure it will all be fine, I had probably a 3.5" drop with springs on my 72' and everything was fine once I let it down on the tires and got compressed down. I'd just check them every once in a while for an irregularity's.
