5spd to auto conversion???

I want to convert my 95 GMC 2wd truck from a 5spd to a 200r4 automatic. Are the stick and auto cross members the same?

NJC10 I just finished my 94 conversion from a manual to a Turbo 400 and the cross members were the same. I know this is a little different then yours but maybe you can cross reference the Turbo400 to the 200r4. I have never heard of a 200Rr4 but I have heard of a 700R4. I love it now not being standard.

I usually browse the 73-87 section lol. The 200r4 is usually in the cars like the Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Caprice, and so on! The rwd ones of course.

Re: 5spd to auto conversion???

The 200-4R is being used by and adapted to cars and trucks that demand a reliable overdrive, rear wheel drive transmission for high performance use. Many vehicles that are pumping out in excess of 700 horsepower are using the 200-4R.

This transmission is the same basic overall length as the Powerglide or Turbo 350 automatics, uses standard flexplates, and uses the same 27-spline slip-yoke as a 'Glide or a TH350. The only thing that isn't the same in terms of just bolting the transmission in the car is the rear transmission mount. The trans-mount location is roughly 6 inches farther rearward than for a TH350 using the same-style trans mount.

There are a couple of ways to accomplish locating the rear crossmember. One solution is to use a Turbo 400 crossmember, which comes very close to bolting up. One trick that seems to work is to take a typical Powerglide/TH350 crossmember, cut the mount off, and reweld it on the trailing side of the crossmember. If you would rather buy a new one, Classic Industries offers these crossmembers new.

The 2004R can be built to handle over 900 HP!! (By a builder that knows the mods required inside it)

I R&R'd quite a few conversions.... sometimes the drive shaft length needs to be changed, but it has been done many times.

Check out information at [url]www.CaliforniaPerformanceTransmissions, to read up on the 2004R conversion.

Re: 5spd to auto conversion???

My Dad has a 454SS with a Ram Jet 502 and a built 200r4. He had it built by a shop that races Buick Grand Nationals with upwards of 1000hp!! My trans is a TCI unit rated to 400-450hp. Should be good for the motor I have in a street truck. I have a few cross members laying around to try.

No this guy was in NJ. The shop was called CarTech. They are no longer in business.

A 2004R is the best built automatic along with the powerglide.

It's true about the power.. I installed one in a '66 Dodge Coronet with a new 426 hemi, a '69 Mustang with a 429, ..all with over 750 HP.

I like the part when I had to test drive them!!
