Sloppy Steering Column

I know that some of us on the Board have faced the dilemma of a loose steering column. I reviewed the excellent write-up by Capt. Kaos in regards to repairing the problem. In the event that I choose not to repair the column, what, if any, are the consequences? Will a Sunday drive in the local mountains turn into a hair-raising dive into a bottomless ravine when I lose the ability to steer? Or, will the problem persist without the fear of loss of steering control? Thoughts, anyone?

Re: Sloppy Steering Column

If it's just the column, not a lot of chance of it breaking completely, but take a video camera just in case.

My real thought:
Why chance with something as serious as steering? I would limit driving it until it was fixed and safe.

Re: Sloppy Steering Column

its a real easy fix if you dont have tilt i used parts out of a 1990 s10 to fix my column then again i got my truck without the original key and its not hard to spot a fire truck

even with tilt theres a youtube video going over how to do that and the autoparts stores have the tool for the pins

id fix it you would be glad you did make it feel like a new truck
