A solid bare cab in my neck o' the woods fetches at least $500, and a solid roller minus power and drive train at least $1000. I say you made out like a bandit.

The 3/4 and 1 ton did get big blocks alot, but when you find a 1/2 ton with one, that is special.

A $1000 for a roller? I paid $250 for a roller 78 LWB Silverado with just slightly more rust than this one and he threw in a set of rust free doors and a rear bumper.

My uncle and I will clean up the engine, replace the power steering pump, put new tires on it and it will be used to pull a stock trailer a couple of times a year.

In south Texas any basket case pickemup holds value, seen some that barely pass inspection still roll. I'd think I was in Mexico if they didn't have Texas plates on them.

Rust is the killer here, the salt sea breeze rots cab roofs and floors which is what I'm dealing with. The 305 in it hasn't run in probably more than 10 years although the previous owner said it ran when he parked it. Picked up a bare cab in San Antonio for $50 with a minor amount of rot in the firewall and I'm still doing the prep work on it.

I thought about trying to resurrect the 305 but I think it's more trouble than it's worth - rings, seals and valve guides are probably shot from sitting. There's a Goodwrench crate 350 in it's future but I'm not close to being there yet.

Transmission pan gasket leaks, brake calipers probably seized, suspension bushings rotten, rear wheel cylinders more than likely dry rotted, etc. I had it towed to the house, no way it will drive anywhere in it's current state.

I'm better off tearing the whole thing down to the frame (my plan) and start over since I have to pull off the cab. It just makes sense to do it this way, I'd rather restore all of it once than play putt-putt on a one-hole course. Just trying to work within my means, and when it's not 100 degrees in the shade...

That truck looks EXACTLY like one of my old neighbors trucks. I tried to buy it from him back in 1997. it had been sitting for 5 or 6 years and he said he was gonna do something with it, went by there 2 weeks ago and its still sitting out there, but its not blue anymore, its brown like rust. saddest thing is he has a matching 1969 chevelle SS out there beside this truck, same color, but its been sitting longer and has also turned rust brown everywhere. makes me wanna slap somebody.
