thinking about making an offer

I am thinking about making an offer on a 72 (I think) 4x4 Blazer this week. This thing is rough. It has been sitting outside for I'm going to guess 20 years. How hard are body parts to find for these old Blazers? I see truck parts all over the place but not to much for the K5's. I like the quad headlight GMC look also so is it possible to swap it all over to that (well anything is possible with the right amount of money) but do the parts interchange easily? Thanks in advance. I'm sure if I get it I will have tons more questions!!! Dave

Someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe 71 and 72 chevy blazers and trucks have a different shaped grill. It wraps more around towards the fenders, which are also different for those years. But I believe 67-70 chevys and 67-72 gmcs all had the same front end. If you really wanted to, you could change out the front fenders and grill. As for other replacement parts, they make rockers, and tons of other patch panels, no rear bedsides or blazer/jimmy doors last time I checked (truck doors can be cut down to fit).

The grills on the 69-72 blazers/trucks/suburbans are interchangeable, but if you swap from a 69-70 to a 71-72, you will have to move your parking lights from the grill to the bumper (which would mean a new bumper too.)

The grills for the Jimmy are interchangeable with the Blazer, but you'll need to swap a few other things like fenders, core support and headlight harness.

67-68 front ends can be swapped too, but you'll need the whole doghouse or be able to do some metal mods to get things to fit.

Well thank you all much. I am thinking of offering this guy $400 bucks for the truck. Plans for it are Dana 60 front axle and 14 bolt rear axle. 5.3L or 6.0L with a 4L80E trans and the 205 transfer case. Dave

If the body is as bad as you make it out to be you will be money ahead to spend a lot more money on a lot better Blazer. Body work is expensive. The $400 Blazer might make a good parts Blazer for you though.

Unless you really, really like doing body work and you're good at it, you might want to find a better starting point. The other mods you're planning on making are going to be fairly expensive, and if you start pouring money into body work as well, the term "money pit" comes to mind.

I will be back out there to look at it again today or tomorrow. I dont really remember its condition as it has been close to a year since i looked at it. I will take a few pics and post them up when i go back out. I have my axles already. Got the dana 60 and the 14 bolt for $200 for the pair. I guess i am a strange person as i LOVE to do body work. It seems to calm me down and as an added bonus gets me out of the house. LOL

Like mentioned, the swap you are considering isn't cheap. I'd personally prefer to have a solid foundation to start with before attempting to sink that much money in the drivetrain.

I just did a 6.0/4L60E swap in mine and dropped $7,000 in it easily including the cost of the engine and trans. That's me doing the work and fabbing alot of parts. The engine was low mile and ran as is, but I built a super stout 4L60E to work behind it, so that was some extra coin.
To do it right (in my opinion) your going to spend close to that.

Just depends on how ambitious you are and how thick the wallet is

I did not mention that i am a service writer for a small mom and pop auto repair shop. I get all my labor on stuff i cant do for free and a bunch of hook ups on parts too.

Well i did not buy it yet. needs some parts so i figured i would check here before i did anything. needs a windshield frame, tailgate, doors, and front floor. are those very easy to get ahold of? not sure what will work from a pick up and what is blazer only parts. guy that owns the truck told me $800 for the truck and a set of doors off a pick up.

Windshield frame is 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy only and is not reproduced, you must find a used one.
Tailgate is 67-72 Chevy/GMC pickup and blazer and is reproduced.
Doors are 69-72 Blazer and Jimmy specific, BUT they are simply cut down truck doors so you can cut down a truck door to perfectly match the Blazer door. They are reproduced too.
Front floor is also reproduced.
