Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

Anyone have any pictures of how they repaired the usual inner fender rust on the front top edge? Got mine sand blasted today and need to get them patched up and painted. Any pics or helpful tips would be awesome!!

I made my patches. Kinda pita though but can be done. If I had a junk set laying around I would make more of these patches.

Mine- we made like a small cap-welded and duraglassed it and painted. Time consuming for sure.

The core support was solid as well as where the inner met the core support. So we remade the end piece I guess you could say.

Re: Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

My repair was unconventional. This method isn’t for everybody but it worked for me. I don’t weld so like everything else I did the repairs with JB Weld. I cut out the rusty metal, cleaned out all the residual rust from the inner bracket, formed a dam for the epoxy, and filled in the gap. Rather than spending hours on body finishing, I made a steel plate for the horizontal area and an aluminum angle for the slanted portion. Half of the photos are from each side of the truck because those are what I happened to photograph.

Here’s what it looked like at the beginning:

Here’s the driver side after the rusted sheet metal was cut away. The support brace underneath was in pretty good shape:

This is the first layer of JB Weld. I finished filling the angled portion with JB Kwik so I wouldn’t have to work it so long:

With the new fitted plate and angle in place. The upper piece was bolted in from the side, the flat plat was attached with JB Weld.

And here’s the finished project after being sprayed with Raptor bed liner. I removed most of the inner fenders because I wanted to. If I had left them intact I still would have done the repair the same way.

I need to fix the same problem on mine. I'm going to cut out the bad areas and fit and weld sheet metal. I dig the bedliner spray.

Re: Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

Wow, thanks for all the responses guys! Ok, here what I think Ill do. I have a '65 I bought a while back for parts. I think I will go up a little bit on the inner fenders it has( the ends are rusted too) and cut out a chunk of each one and use to make my panels. May not be exact, but should be faster than starting from scratch. What do you guys think?

Re: Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

That's my plan too JC
All the angles are correct, they just need to be sectioned to lose the hieght.
Using this approach I don't see why it can't be exact.

Re: Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

Hey does anybody know the name or LMC PN of that support brace that sits under the front corner of the inner fender, looks like it ties the rad support, fender, inner fender together. Can't seem to find a repop and mine are rusted out.

thanks.

As far as I know, that piece is not available. You'll likely have to make that yourself.

Re: Inner fender rust repair...any pics? or tips?

Okay thanks for the info John. Seems like a prone spot to rust on these trucks so I figured there must be repops available. Gonna have to weld it up.
