How do I mount speakers behind kick panels? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm thinking about buying the kick panels from the 73-87 store:

once I cut the hole for the speaker, etc...how are you guys mounting the speakers to the side of interior? or is the kick panel strong enough to hold them in alone?

Is there a link to those panels? I'm going to be changing out my interior this weekend. Like the Velcro idea too. I need a link or two for my wife to go shopping for my BDay.

Are you asking how does the kick panel stay in place? Or is the kick panel enough to support the weight of the speaker? If its the second question, the panel will support the weight of the speaker. I had a custom set of speaker pods made out of ABS plastic that mount to my doors. I simply placed my 6.5 inch speaker in the pod, screwed the speaker in, and mounted the whole assembly to the door using self-tapping screws.

How does that sound set up like that? I'm about to do the same and since I don't have full kick panels like you I guess I can just weld up the hole if I don't like it. The speakers I got have tweeters that can be aimed so I think that should help, I also picked up some of those xtc foam baffles to keep the back of the speakers dry.

This only works with stock type speakers - fairly shallow depth to that kick panel area. The speaker magnet is very close to the sheet metal there, and you can feel the magnetic attraction when you install them. Still, they sound fine to me, but I do not have an extra amp or boom blaster. (I am half deaf though

)
I built speaker boxes for the rear corners. They sound good also.

Nice, I built some boxes for 6x9s in the corners as well but the highs are fairly muffled by the seat. I do have a sub box with 3 shallow mount kicker 10s in it behind the seat which really overpowers the highs even with it turned almost all the way down so that was why I was looking to add another set of speakers. My truck only had the hole for the single 4x10 in the dash and I made a plate to hold 2 4" speakers there but its just not enough to keep up with the bottom end.

I used 3 self tapping screws on each pod - one in each corner - that were long enough to go all the way thru the kick panel and bite into the metal to secure mine.
