Dually Bed Repair

I got a 1985 Chevy C30 3+3 and the previous owner had cut the area out between the wheel wells to put in a goose neck hitch. I am wanting to put the area back in. I have got parts cut from another bed already so wont have to buy patch panels. I am looking at different options:
1 Just weld them in with the mig and bed line
2 roll flange and rivet and glue in then bed line
3 add bracing and weld in and then bed line
4 flange and stitch weld in and bed line
I am open to other suggestions as well if any one has got any. Will be adding in a newer style Fifth wheel and goose neck that has the rail system so can still use the bed but can pull both types of trailers.

Im assuming that youre going to use this truck as more than a decorative piece. Id prolly pull the bed and have the patch panel welded in from above a little larger than the cut area then go under and weld over there. Id also make sure that if any of the cross braces were cut that i would sister thema few inches on either side of the cut

Re: Dually Bed Repair

I would get a b&w turnover ball gooseneck hitch. It
mounts under the bed and you can flip thr ball over and there is nothing in the way in the bed. With the rails mounted in the bed you can't slide
anything in there very easy. You can also get a 5th wheel adaptor for the turnover hitch so you will be able to pull both. It requires a hole in the floor of thr bed, but it's well worth it.

Thanks for the info about that style of hitch. I hadn't seen that style before. But I still have to fix the bed floor as the area between the wheel wells is not there. Easy to work on rear diff hard to load and carry stuff thou.

Oh so they cut a big chunk out of that truck then. B&w hitches are really good. I plan on getting on for my crew cab dually at some point.
